Alright so I know that conventional wisdom states that any self-respecting man shouldn't wear brown shoes with black pants but I got a pair of black Levi's 516s and decided to see how they'd look with a pair of brown shoes I have and the more I look at them together the more confused I get because it actually looks pretty good. Also I tried some lighter brown boots I have and that looked good too.

What's happening here? Does that 'rule' only apply to dress pants?

I think that rule is more geared towards dress pants and shoes, not casual wear. But I am not a boy and I do not wear boy fashions.

I got these today, wool Levi's 201's, modeled after their vintage workwear line.

And I want this.

And maybe the tobacco 501's and the rigid selvedge 501's because 45 bucks for a pair of selvedge levi's seems like a good call.

I dunno if brown denim is a thing that exists. May have to settle for cords or wool pants, brochacho.

Brown Levi's 501's STF

Tobacco Levi's 501's STF

There are at least two pairs, if you are willing to get them from the internet.

I totally had an awesome pair of brown jeans when I was at uni. If I wore them with black boots, a wide black leather belt and a black linen shirt I looked like a fucking pirate. Shit. Yes.
Also thanks Kieffer! The tobacco ones are way too light for me but I'm digging the darker ones. They're not quite what I had in mind but they are the closest I've seen so far. Little leery of buying trousers off of the net though.

Levi's make a brown 'work pant' that are cut like jeans but not made out of denim? They have them at Myer.
Max wanted some but I was leery of letting him buy brown pants because he does have many shirts that would look nice with them. Also they didn't have any in his size.

For casual stuff it's doable, but you'll have to be a more daring man than I am. You'll really need to look at more than just the pants and the shoes in question since you can no longer assume you have a coordinated base to build on. That means if you pick the wrong top or jacket and you can end up looking like a bit of a clown. Personally, I just avoid black unless I really plan on letting it be the dominant color in the outfit.

I dunno how sizes work in australia, but I generally wear a 30/32, and when buying those jeans I buy a 31/34 or 32/34 and then wear em in and wash them. I've heard people say they fit tight in the thighs though.

Damn, these are awesome but just checked and they're 3x the price in Europe for some reason.

Because we are always subconsciously aware and feel oddly guilty about the fact that we have, like, no black people on this forum and so we have to compensate.

I'm considering sewing my own damn pants at this point. It is almost impossible to find anything that fits me close to properly, even after hours and hours of shopping and trying on pants and annoying my boyfriend by making him sit and wait for me.

On a similar note, I bought a denim catsuit the other day. Which I then proceeded to cut up to make pants. But, the fact is that I bought a denim catsuit.

Yeah they jack up the EU prices because Levi's is an AMERICAN original and if you want that shit you gotta cough up the skrills.

Even though they're made in like malaysia or some shit now.

I think every pair of 501s I've ever had was made in a different country.  This might account for the fact that no two pairs have fitted the same either, the same size varying from too tight to do up to my wife commenting how baggy they were.

No, I did not take a picture. I should have. They're wide-leg jeans which previously had long triangles coming out of the top that attached behind the neck in an amazingly awful halter-top.

I love fatties, I honestly do, but no one that wears a 3x size (which is this catsuit's size) should EVER wear a catsuit. Or a halter-top without a back.

I really want to start aiming my wardrobe towards like a 70s southwestern kind of look but I am having trouble finding things that are not tacky. I've only bought grey items of clothing in the last few weeks, oops. suggestions for online shops like free people but better?

Guys what the crap do you wear at a funeral? The most appropriate shoes I've got are these neat black desert boots but I don't know if they're appropriate enough? Do the pants have to be black or is too much black a little oppressive? Is a dark charcoal ok? Shit I really don't want to fuck this up.

Wear whatever you've got as long as it's not too flashy. You don't have to be super-black or super-formal. Just tidy.
