LADIES OF THE FORUM WHO HAVE ORDERED FROM MODCLOTH:
i'm thinking of buying a couple of dresses (!) from there in the semi-near future but i've never ordered from this site before. i'm about a size 2 american, occasionally size 4, but i got a big butt and i keep hearing that their sizes run small. what have your experiences ordering from them been like so far and what sizes should i be looking at? is a small going to be okay? i know that they have a bunch of crap on the website about how you can approximate your size by laying your clothes on the ground and measuring the bust and waist and all that crap, but since so many of you shop here on a somewhat frequent basis, i figured it would be easier and more accurate to just ask you guys.

It is important to note that Modcloth have hundreds of different suppliers and do not have standard sizes. I order from there quite a lot and have been several different sizes.
The best thing to do is to get your measurements (bust, waist, hips) and put them in the handy dandy measurement keeper on your profile. Then check your measurements against the measurements of the item.
Also helpful is to check the reviews of items that have been out for a couple of weeks - ladies comment saying what has and hasn't worked for them, and most times they will share their measurements as well.
Modcloth also has easy exchanges if items don't fit and their customer service is great. I haven't had any issues with my sizes though and that is because I thoroughly check the measurements against mine, and if I'm a little uncertain, measure a similar item as you said.
Sorry there's no easy way.

My new coat came in from Topman. The Brits messed up the order and somehow it was delayed two months. I got my refund, but just received my coat. I don't feel guilty in the slightest way for having it. Will post picture soon.

Yeah, nothing I've ever bought from Topman (I can only speak to the quality of the merchandise they sell in the US) has held up for longer than a season. Which I suppose is intentional when it comes to mass-produced trendy clothing.

Fashion thread I need to buy black leather shoes for my new jorb. Do I go for the cheapest option possible and get something that is fuck-ugly and functional or do I spend about twice as much and get something that is nicer looking and I would probably wear outside of work? I'm not really short on casual, everyday shoes right now and money is tight (and I don't particularly wanna accrue more stuff if I'm just gonna pick up and go travelling again), but basically the cheapest thing I can find that won't fall apart more or less instantly is $45. As previously mentioned, they are fuck ugly. Here they are.

I am also looking at some Timberland moc-top boots which are about $100, but I would probably get way more use out of them than the above-linked shoes because I'd probably wear them outside of work. (Can't find any pics or links for these though).

Get something which you aren't embarrassed to wear for eight hours a day. Take the time to invest in something that will last longer. Also make sure that no matter what you get they are comfy as fuck.

I'm sure you can find something that is about that price but not fuck ugly, but they probably won't last long. I dunno. Go shop around and look for sales. That's how I found my combat boots.

Oh yes that is the other problem, the only decent shopping is an hour's drive away in Calgary, and I am very very soon about to be without a car. I'm pretty much stuck to what slim pickings there is in Banff, which is to say, barely anything at all. Fuck you , you stupid tourist town and your gazillion souvenir shops all selling the exact same trinkets and literally nothing of any use.

I've been lusting over them since before Christmas, but they were 45 pounds and I already have two pairs of boots, so I didn't get them. However, last week they were on sale for 20 pounds so yesss! I am so happy!

Speaking of sizes.... I just lost two stone & need to re-buy my whole wardrobe for the bottom half of my body.

Work clothes is the hardest, I work in an office, but a fairly stylish one & I really do enjoy my work wardrobe. The skirts I have had tailored to fit, so no problem, but I really want to wear trousers a little more often.

Jeans buying has & will always be awful, but trying to find slim fit tailored trousers for work is IMPOSSIBLE. I cannot find any I like. I want them to be proper skinny fit, not cropped & tidy looking, possible a shiny tonic suit type material?

They don't have to be black, in fact I'd prefer it if they weren't.

I have no idea why this is so hard! Any help?

Also: shoes! I have never had a pair of nice shoes before, but now I do. I have procured a pair of these.

And they seem pretty spiffy.

The outfit looks pretty solid to me. Just make sure you wear a black belt with your black shoes! (Normally I am the first one to buck this trend but for formalish occasions you really should follow it.)

That is a black belt actually!  The way the light is reflecting off the buckle there is making the buckle look pretty orange-y (it's also slightly beaten up a little bit, so it's got some rust-colored spots on it). Also, the buckle is kind of huge and that's the only part you can see in that pic, the rest is hiding under the vest.

I do have a plain black tie I would use if the occasion called for it, I just hate tying ties and didn't feel like it for the pic. I also have a different black one spotted with orange/yellow/white not-quite-squares that was my grandfather's favorite tie, and I personally think is pretty awesome for being totally over-the-top garish. That's not really what I'm going for here though.

I am considering sewing and selling neckties. Would that be silly? Do they all have to be made of a silky fabric, or is high-quality cotton okay? The patterns are oddly expensive so I don't want to go for it if there's no real market for different ties.
