Assuming you're you in your avatar - aren't those suspenders?

Either way, yes. Be prepared for people pulling them though.

actually it's the strap to my camera bag. But now that you mention it, it does look like suspenders.

Wafflecone, I know for a fact H&M in MTL is full of jackets like that. Strike while the iron is hot, because the men's equivalents were pretty much sold out when I looked.

Yuuuup, just bought two! Haha thanks guys. I was kinda holding out for something thicker/warmer, but I will make do with layering.

Tania, I dunno why you don't like that coat, it's lovely.

to be honest i'm sort of predispositioned to hate everything at the store i work at because they fuck me over on a regular basis and there isn't a single person who shops there who is anywhere near my age and everybody i work with is waaaay too into the clothing and they all talk incessantly about how excited they are for the new catalogue. it's that whole reverse psychology thing, you know. i know i am biased so i figured i'd just post the coat on its own and get some opinions and i guess the popular consensus is that it is a real nice coat so i will think about it a little longer and see how i feel in a week or so because 50% off is a pretty dang good deal and all of the sizes will definitely be gone in the next couple of weeks now that the weather is fucking freezing all of the time.

thanks for the opinions gang! also here is the link.

Hannah! You should also get some cute heels to go with that first dress. It is begging for them. So adorable!

Lunchy we will go thrifting I promise. It is one of my new favourite things. (Also Gallery Serpentine holy shit.)

Don't worry Katie, I will go to Gallery with you. I want some of their coats. Though last time I went I discovered that due to my huge torso and not huge arms I need to get them to tailor the coats to fit me. Fuck.

Right, so I'm going to a Penn State football game this weekend with one of my friends.  I just found out I'll be in the president's box.  I have no idea what is acceptable to wear here; she's going to be wearing black dress pants and a sweater.  What kind of outfit would work in this situation?

Ok, so on a whim my mother decided to take me out and get some nicer clothes, so I picked up a brown ultra suede sports coat (this is what she called it, I have no idea if that's right or not), some dark khaki jeans, and some khaki-colored slacks.  I was thinking of doing the slacks with either a long sleeved pullover and the jacket or a button down shirt with the jacket.  If I don't get another chance to check this, I'll try to take some pictures to show how it turned out.

Also, since you are going surplus I fear maybe you believe that authenticity is more important than looking good when it comes to fashion.

The cruiser is a much better idea. The Filson bomber jacket looks like something a divorced dad would wear on the day he gets to see his kids.

Which one is the cruiser? Is it one of the ones in your first post?

If you have surplus shops, you should easily be able to find a good heavy jacket for less than $100, and I imagine Austin has plenty of surplus shops (it's Texas).

How cold are we talking, anyway? I've never been to Austin, so I don't know what kind of temperatures you are talking about, and what you normally wear at those temperatures. I've got a leather jacket with a nylon lining and polyester insulation that I wear in well below freezing weather that keeps me perfectly warm, I got that for 8 or 9 bucks (I'm pretty sure I mentioned getting it in a post last January). I'm pretty sure it also fits the description of bomber jacket, what with the elastic at the bottom to seal better.

If you are looking at surplus, from my experience, boots are bigger than they say, but everything else is a good bit smaller. My friend and I have to look for XL clothes at the surplus shop, and I'm 6'2", 165lb, not exactly what you would consider extra-large.

Ah, okay. I see which on you mean now.

30-50, sometimes rain? Oh, you mean fall/spring. I thought you were talking about winter.

Seriously, though, what do you normally wear in that kind of weather? I'm assuming that you probably wear more in that weather than I do.

Fashion thread, where would I go to sell clothes? I have a bunch of older jackets I no longer wear. I could give them to charity I guess but these are really nice jackets like a really cool black suede number and an Italian wool jacket that I got from my grandfather that is in perfect condition. I've been to all the vintage stores in the area and they all buy from private sellers or something or otherwise just don't buy stuff from people off the street (which I guess is fair enough). I didn't really want to have to bother with eBay but it's looking like that is my only option, any ideas?

Sam, I was just joking with the fall/spring thing. It just always makes me laugh when people refer to that weather as cold.

What do you normally wear in that weather? The trucker's jacket? I don't know what that is, so I can't really recommend something of similar warmth.

How much stuff do you have? If you get down to the DIY markets in Newtown you can set yourself up with a clothes stand and sell whatever you've got. Maybe even team up with a few other people, if you want to make a thing out of it. It's on the last Saturday of every month outside the Hub, stall space works on a first in best dressed basis, so you just have to get there early. There is no cost for stalls 'cause it was started as a DIY-no-approval-from-council thing by anarcho-hippy-punk types.

Newtown would also be ideal considering your fashion style as well.

eddie bauer isn't fashionable. i just work(ed) there and wanted to know if the discount was worth taking advantage of. i don't really like any of their clothes.

the point is moot anyway because a couple of days after posting that i suddenly had an epiphany where i realized how much i fucking hated working there and put in my two weeks notice. maybe they will still give me a discount if i decide to buy that coat. probably not but who knows? oh well! woooooo

I was hoping that was the joke, but I couldn't be certain because everybody on QC needs a very powerful glasses prescription, and we're all incredibly self conscious and feel like dorks when we have them on, so we try to avoid wearing them, even if we're using the internet. It used to be the forum subtitle, even.

"QC: Where kids hate that they need their stupid glasses."
Before that is was
"QC: Where kids think glasses are cool and fashionable."
