See, I have been making those same arguments to myself and convincing myself to not get a corset ever since I first went into Gallery Serpentine so that I didn't go and buy one. This has been going on for 2 years and I still really want a corset, so obviously the arguments aren't doing that well. I am definitely a t-shirt and jeans person, but at the same time I am trying to dress up when the occasion calls for it. A corset may be for balls and goth nights, but they can also be for special occasions when you want to dress up, or just wear something a bit fancy and different. This one I want to get isn't a huge overbust victorian velvet-and-lace deal, it is a small, pinstriped underbust dealy that I can wear in a wider variety of situations.

Plus it's my birthday coming up and I can afford to buy it and it makes my waist looks tiny and I look curvier in general and I like it. I am slowly trying to push my limits on what I wear and how I look in general, and move away from stuff that will let me blend into the crowd, so I learn to deal with people noticing me, and I was so happy when I finally tried it on and it looked nice.

As you said, there are situations other than formal events and goth events where you can wear it - with a loose pale shirt underneath it, with pants, for example, if you just want to feel a bit slick and pulled together but still unusual.
Also it suits you and you have wanted one for a long time, despite trying to convince yourself not to get one, so if you can reasonably afford it then it is worth it.

Underbust corsets are a little more versatile and you can wear them more often and you don't have to be limited to fancy things and goth night.

Also, I too am a very t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, but I still really want a corset and actually, they aren't that uncomfortable. It's more comfortable than binding anyways.

lunchy by the logic of only buying things that you wear oftern, that would mean that you wouldn't have any nice dresses or good shoes or silly accessories. Lunchy, that would mean most people wouldn't formal gear. I dont know about you, but that world just isn't a world worth living in.

Hannah, buy the corset, and if you're worried about not having enough chances to wear it, make a chance to wear it, just go to work or out shopping one day, dressed up. Make the world a little better with your style.

if i am thinking the same as lunchy i think by "often" she means clothes that have some sort of long-term practicality to them, not literally how often you wear it. i have some pricey formal wear that i wear at job interviews and meetings and fancy occasions and so on, which obviously don't happen every day, but i justify the cost based on the fact that at those events it's important to look good and present yourself well and something like a good blouse or solid pair of dress pants you can keep around for years because they never really go out of style. however, the idea of dropping a whole ton of money on a fashionable thing that i only wear a couple of times a year purely for the sake of having something expensive and weird in my wardrobe and nothing else honestly just seems really wasteful and consumerist to me. it makes a lot more sense to me to spend that sort of money on things i am actually going to wear relatively often and where the money is going towards the quality and durability of the material, like a good bag or a snazzy pair of boots. then again my job sucks and i make like no money ever so maybe i will change my mind once i grow up and have a slightly better salary.

i am not actually sure what i am arguing anymore since hannah already said she will be wearing that corset fairly often, i guess i am more weirded out by the idea of having a wardrobe consisting of different impractical things that you only wear once in a while because what the heck who even has that kind of money? i sure don't.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't really see the corset as something you cannot wear everyday. You can seriously make them more casual, depending on what you wear them with.

Hannah you should definitely buy it. I am actually responding in the fashion thread so you know I goddamn mean it.

it makes a lot more sense to me to spend that sort of money on things i am actually going to wear relatively often and where the money is going towards the quality and durability of the material, like a good bag or a snazzy pair of boots.

That is definitely what you are paying for when you buy a pricey corset. Keep in mind that a high quality corset is going to be high quality enough to also be used for waist training, which requires everything to be just about perfect for the individual wearing it.

Part of me wants to say that they could work somehow, but I am not coming up with any ideas of how they would work.

EDIT. Google image search says it can be done, as does Gossip Girl Over yonder. So maybe just make sure whatever you are wearing with them is not remotely costume-y?

White tights are pretty common here, but they get dirty so quickly that you have to be really careful. I have that issue with my pink tights (although I do tend to be wearing them for dance, where the floor is mucky and my feet are often resting against my ankles etc).

Phil see I don't actually have any 'nice' things, literally all of my clothes are multi-purpose and get worn for formal and informal occasions (I don't really like being 'dressed up'), and the only accessories I wear are scarves that have the dual purpose of keeping my neck warm! I can't stand anything that dangles or that I can't run in.
So I guess my opinion in this whole thing is pretty useless but whatevs.

White tights: Go for it.

I went shopping with Fatty and Katie and bought SHOES. I have seriously wanted pink shoes for so long I don't even remember not wanting a pair. I saw them, tried them on and had to have them. Fatty bought the same shoes in the 'mushroom' colour.
