I am not gonna get much sleep tonight. Room is half-decorated, so there's a strong paint smell that's sending me high and the window has to be open to let some of the smell out so its freezing cold. And I get my first driving lesson tomorrow yay

Tomorrow morning I leave to go to the best place in the world. I am going to spend all weekend listening to great music (like Great Lake Swimmers and Justin Rutledge) and camping and hanging out with cool people. I wait for this festival all year - the second it's over I can't wait for the next one. So happy!

So today was a horrible fucking day. It was atrocious. When my boyfriend picked me up from work, he told me that his day was bad as well.

Then we got home, and opened up our new 360(!!), and then I made french toast(!!!), and basically, we were super smiles after that, and giggly, and everything was great again. I am so glad that something as simple as video games, and french toast can basically fix our ruined day.

I like when that happens. Yesterday something kind of similar happened. I woke up all super crabby since I had a bad dream (it was one of those really frustrating "i'm running really fast but i am not moving hardly at all") and I was running late for work and my neighbor has a really loud truck that woke me up early... just crabby for no reason.

Before I left, I accidentally bumped into the wall with my purse and my phone (which is touch screen) started going "WHYYYYY?! Why did the farmer! start a punk rock band!!??!" which was a video I took of Neil Hamburger like a week ago. Immediately I was like ":)...why?" "BECAAAAAAUSE he was tired of haaaaaaaulin' oats" and immediately I was in a good mood for the rest of the day.

It was kind of perfect that my phone randomly just tells me a joke when I am crabby. This should happen more often.

I got Venture Bros. seasons 1 and 2 from MovieStop for a total of $12 today. Patience pays off when you dig through the "loose DVDs in plain clear cases" rack. (They were both $20 at Target and $15 for used copies just because they had the box.)

Also copies of RV ($4) and Wild Hogs ($4). About all those are worth, really. Meh, cheap laughs.

So, I just finished On The Road, and I have eaten every last word I said about it a page ago.  I didn't really think the book was going anywhere for about 3/4ths of the book, and then they go to Mexico and really get the main point of the book together, and really start showing the characters as they truly are and the last book of the novel is just sad and augh i guess i am saying that you were right qc forums.  you were right all along.

So, I'm organizing a first year grad student night out.  During this night out, the second years (me and my friends) pick up the first years from their homes (with their permission) and take them to dinner (everyone pays for themselves) then bars (the same, but we usually buy them lots of drinks).  Well, everyone is being the worst possible people they can for this and not acknowledging any e-mails I ever send them, until I happen to see them in person at which point they go on about all the questions they have about what I've e-mailed them.  I'm also finally getting people telling me that they can't do it, several days after I e-mailed them the plan.  I figured a day or two was long enough for someone to let me know whether or not they can come, so I made the damned dinner reservations.  Why can't people read an e-mail, and then respond with any issues they have with what is said in the e-mail immediately?

I frequently compare this situation to a kitchen.  When the chef calls out an order, he expects a "yeah chef" (or equivalent) from his cooks, so that he knows his order was understood.  How much from your day does it really take to read a fucking e-mail and respond to it with an acknowledgement, or maybe an issue that you ran into?  This is why I micromanage every project that I run.  FUCK!

Oh man. Guys. I am at work. We are stocking a new thing that seems incredibly gimmicky at first: A cube of chocolate that you put into a cup of warm milk so it turns into, uh, hot chocolate. We already sell hot chocolate, so I thought this was another of the cheap, low-quality things we stock because people will buy anything that sounds new. I decided to try one so I know what I'm selling to people. It is so fucking delcious. It tastes of real chocolate! From Belgium! Rich in flavour and so thick and smooth. I found God in a chocolate hot milk popsicle

That stuff is brilliant!!!

I went for something similar... small chocolate balls :) you put four or five in a cup and add some hot milk and PRESTO dark bourbon vanilla hot chocolate <3

For future reference, include a deadline in the email.  Say "I have to make dinner reservations so if I haven't heard back from you in two days then I'll assume you aren't coming."  People still won't all respond, but that way you can go ahead and ignore them back.

The problem is, I sent a sign-up sheet for the first years, if they wanted to come to the event, and I also sent out an e-mail for the second years to see who wanted to come.  I booked the restaurant for the number of first years who signed up + the number of second years who e-mailed saying they wanted to come.  This is just people canceling.  I might punch people in the face soon, but either way it will be over tonight.

Just had a meeting with my boss.  He lives down the street from my house, just moved to the area, so I mentioned "hey, i think i walked by your house the other day with faye" and he's like "you should have dropped in!!!"  Would that be super weird?  I thought that'd be weird so I told him "yeah, so then I can tell people i'm stalking my boss??" and he thought it was really funny.  He then really extended an open invitation for me and Faye to drop by to see him, his wife and daughter.  I can't tell if this is unusual.  He's a really nice guy and we get along pretty great, but I'm not sure what limitations are really in place when ya know, it's your boss. I DO want faye to have playdates and stuff, so I'm thinking about it.  Is this creepy?  From either side?

Blog,

I might be showing "Night of the Living Dead" at the library for Halloween.

We are in the process of getting certain licenses and such to allow us to show movies at the library and I was considering doing a  movie night with some public domain movies for Halloween to see if there is any interest.

So, it's awesome that science gets done by people all over the world.  I love that we really do have the greatest minds working on awesome problems with very little regard for political boundaries.  However, this sort of thing results in the only company that can provide the device I want to use being in France and run by French people.  I don't dislike the French as a rule (fuck, they make awesome food), but English is not their first language, and that results in the fact that it is now taking me extra long to get through the instruction manual for this device.  I'm putting an open letter out there now:

Dear Phasics,
I respect that your grasp of English is not perfect.  It is far better than my grasp of French.  That said, could you please hire an English speaker to proofread your instruction manuals?  Just hire someone who majored in English or Philosophy or something like that.  They can understand English well, and it's not like they've got a plethora of job offers out there.  Hell, I bet they'd want to live in France so much that you wouldn't have to pay them very much at all.

Sincerely,
Bastardous Bassist

Thanks a lot, but I think only the beginning of it was written by someone who didn't have a good grasp of English.  I've since read another part of it, and it was in very intelligible English.  If I get to another ridiculous section, I'll let you know.

I'm actually kinda confused why you think this is odd.  Frankly, shouldn't you be jazzed that your boss wants to hang out outside of work?  If you become friends, then he is more likely to think of you for promotions and less likely to think of you for layoffs.

Some people I know say he just placed the invite for the sake of being polite, which isn't creepy, but if I accepted, it would be.  I'm just trying to figure out the right way to approach this.  I don't want to come off as an ass kisser or anything and I've only worked for him for a month.  I'll probably take Faye over at some point just to feel it out.  If it's awkward at all or anything, I guess I could just not take her a second time...

I know a lot of people who hang out with their bosses or employees outside of work hours, it's not weird at all. In fact, most of my dad's friends are people he worked for or with at some point or that works for him now, and one of my close friends is currently apartment hunting with her boss because they get along so well they'd like to be roommates. Good luck, making new friends is pretty awesome no matter where you first met them!

Dear Diary,

I am still madly in love with this girl. I saw her again yesterday. I thought things would maybe change, but they didn't. I'm contemplating sending her a message to tell her how absolutely privileged I feel just knowing her. I realize that would be pretty silly and maybe even creepy. And maybe I should have done that when I came home this morning, now it might be too late anyway.

In other, more awesome news:

- seeing as I am done with working construction as of last wednesday, I have abandoned my proletarian ways and will furthermore only be addressed as François, Marquis de Deux-Ponts.

- My new band will be on an online sampler. This is awesome!

- Last week was my birthday, my co-workers baked my this awesome cake:

It moving back into a dorm time! I have all my stuff in my room, I just have to unpack, wait for roommate to decide on furniture/space arrangements etc.

Now that I am back I am afraid to leave my room! Grr, anxiety. I suppose I'll get over it when I get hungry enough.

So, the first year's night out was a mild success.  Dinner was lots of fun, but then pretty much all of the first years decided that they didn't want to go to bars (even after being enticed by "free drinks," which one of them said he would take us up on at a later date, which isn't something that can actually happen).  So, we ended up at the first bar with only three people that we were supposed to be taking out for fun times.  Well, that meant they were getting spectacularly fun times, damnit!  So, everyone ended up buying drinks for only three people (which then reduced to two when we went to our second bar).  Drunkenness ensued mightily.  Other amusing things happened, but I think a lot of them are on the "you had to be there" level.

Blaggy,

My internet and phone got disconnected. I was driving my father's car a few days later and got pulled over and the car was impounded (I was not informed that the registration was overdue). I quit my last job because I was not getting paid, and two of my roommates have moved out without paying rent. Also, I'm seeing two different psychiatrists in the same building, both of which are telling me completely opposite things (I do not think they bother discussing things with each other).

On the plus side, I managed to get a part time job and am selling pretty much all of my belongings. Does anyone want some Emerson, Lake and Palmer LP's?

My boyfriend and I picked up my dog last night. She looks terrible. She is shaking, and vomiting nonstop. She won't eat. We bought her some really nice dog food, wet and dry, and she won't even go near it. She doesn't make any effort to eat. I gave her a bath this morning, and instead of her normal fighting me to not be in the tub, she just laid down. At one point I had to lift her head to keep it out of the water. My boyfriend had to carry her to the bedroom last night. She doesn't have the strength to do anything. Her vomit is getting darker and darker each time she throws up. I don't know what to do. I've been in tears all morning.

Man, what a weekend. Fallout live roleplaying on Thursday was awesome. We took the Fallout universe and moved it to Norway (culturally and politically identical to the 50s, with tech advanced far beyond). The setting was inside of State Vault 3, where we discussed the opening of the vault. I played the representative from the Workers Party. It was the Best thing.

And then there was a party yesterday and one today and I've met quite a few nice people and gotten to know some quite nice people better, so good times have been had. Although I'm guessing it's bad that I've started thinking that I need to get a girlfriend just to show them that I can. That's not a really nice mindset at all, is it?

Last Thursday I had a heart attack; I had no particular risk markers for that.

Shit.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I still prefer to think of rugby in a more friendly way: Everyone tries to hug the guy with the ball. The team with the most hugs at the end of the game wins. Extra points for group hugs.
