So I just looked up MTG's last.fm (it's not stalking, it's information gathering) and she hasn't listened to my mixtape even once. Never mind!

Did she maybe play it on her CD Player?

I'm glad they saw the need to add the word "gracefully," because I can just imagine what happened before that addition.

As far as transportation goes, if it's close then I'll walk or take my bicycle, but I'm just a little too far away from school/work (not quite the same place) to ride there without ending up really sweaty and miserable all day so I either take my car or motorcycle (if it's nice out).  The problem with this transportation method is that I get to ride my bicycle about once or twice a week (I usually just stay at home, because I just don't have the time to go places).  Does anyone else here ride on two (or fewer!?) wheels that have a motor attached to at least one of the two?  I.E.  Scooter, motorcycle, moped, etc.

Yeah I've seen you're username and I know you ride unicycles, I just thought the fact that very few people in general uses unicycles as a method of transportation compared to say, bicycles, may be the reason why there are so few unicycle-related road accidents.

That said, unicycling is pretty impressive, and I know that if I had tried it myself I would probably have increased the fatality statistics a tiny bit. So yeah, good work!

I'm glad to year you're okay!  Crashes suck, even when you don't write a car off.

Also:  So, I am trying to do research, but the camera I am using hates me.  It has the max value on the pixels even when the lens is covered.  Also, I realized that I may have damaged the $80k (US) camera that I've tried so hard not to damage by forgetting that things that are opaque in visible light might not be for infrared.  If that happened, it'll suck, because if I had gotten some data written up by the beginning of November, I might have been able to present at a conference.

Oh, bad luck Tommy!  That sucks, even when you can claim to be at fault (well, that sucks, too).  Still, it's experience, and puts some of the safety stuff about speed and space from the car in front into perspective.

I've had seven crashes (in forty-five years of driving), and only two were indisputably not my fault (a car pulled out of a side road in front of me, and a boy-racer rammed me from behind when he thought two cars could get in the gap in the traffic, and I thought none could!).  It's a pretty poor record, so I suppose I must be reckless?  On the positive side, I did also manage once to escape to the hard shoulder out of a motorway pile-up in fog - hearing other cars crunching together alongside you is seriously weird.  I also did an insane amount of driving for a number of years, when I was commuting about seventy miles cross-country each way daily - this is why I like that I can now cycle or walk to work.

Anyway, any crash sucks, and you may find you have a delayed reaction to it.  It is good to go for a drive with a friend as soon as possible, to restore confidence.

PS - get the back checked.  Even mild whiplash can be troublesome if not properly sorted out.

You'd be surprised at how brutal the impact needs to be to trigger the airbag.

I'm getting the real internet back in a few days! It'll be nice to use it on a screen bigger than 3.5 inches. My new home is pretty nice despite being cramped and far from town, bit my shiny new bike lets me cover the 5 miles in about 20-25 minutes. I guess it'll be less fun in winter. Also my best friend left for uni and I went on rollercoasters for the first time and it was awesome. So that is my life, hello everyone how are you?

I'm glad you came out relatively okay (okay enough to post certainly.) If you feel that shaky it must've been pretty bad though; how fast were you moving at the time? Only car crashes I've been involved in were just love taps by car crash standards.

I'm going to go with the possibly unpopular "if a puddle of acid asked me to ruin my life, I would do it, to make the puddle happy."

p.s.  Did you not find out who was considered at-fault at by the officer on the scene at the time?  That's how it's always worked for me when I was involved in an accident (a number of times, but only once was I driving).

i think he meant he would delibrately ruin his life in exchange for a "puddle" of acid. he went on to say that since he had already ruined his life he would happily bathe in the puddle and drink as much of it as possible, dying happy and insane.

Since I was always told that two car lengths is the expected distance to leave

Who told you that???  My usual rule (when I can*) is the distance travelled in two seconds.  Some people use one car length for every 10 mph; this tends to underestimate at higher speeds, though**.  Both these rules are enshrined in law in some US states.

* Meaning: that this leaves a big enough space that other drivers move into and destroy the safety zone for you.
**  Remember that the energy to be dissipated goes up with the square of the speed.

Yeah I learned the two second rule. I was told to watch stuff on the side of the road to estimate distance; start counting when the car ahead passes a pole, and if I'm past two when the pole reaches me I'm good.

And yeah I fucking hate it when other assholes on the road slide into the space I'm leaving between the car in front of me. We're on the fucking highway, not parallel parking.

Well I've only heard it twice in my life before, once in driver's ed (er, driving school, do they have that in the uk?) which not everyone takes, and once from my uncle who is a traffic cop. So if I hadn't taken driver's ed and not had a traffic cop for an uncle I never would have heard it either.

In fact, if I hadn't taken driver's ed I'd be a truly shitty driver, because the only person I'd have learned from is my mom, and she's a terrible driver. I remember distinctly (actually this is surprising, since I have so few distinct memories from back then) the driving instructor clutching the sides of the car and freaking out during one section of road near my home, and when they asked what the hell I was doing I confusedly responded that I was just doing what my mom does. I think that's a major issue with a lot of the shitty drivers out there; their parents are shitty drivers, so that's what they learned.

er, not to imply anything about your parents

I'm not sure what I would do if I saw someone riding a unicycle on the side of the road.  I've seen people riding unicycles in town (maybe not this one), but always as a bit of a gimmick for attention, which means they weren't stupid enough to treat it like a legitimate form of transportation.

My brother has told me about his old music teacher who used to ride his unicycle to work, carrying his instruments with him. He is the principal tubist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He also played Flight of the Bumblebee on tuba while riding said unicycle around the stage for a children's concert. The guy is crazy.

Also tommy, I am glad you and everyone else involved is alright. One of my biggest fears while driving is that I am going to have an accident, so I normally get very nervous when in a fair amount of traffic. I hope you get everything dealt with quickly and easily!

Yikes!  That guy certainly is crazy.  One of my specifications for car buying is whether or not it will fit my upright bass and I have never even considered riding with it on two wheels, let alone one.  My balance isn't fantastic, but still.

(LONG BEACH, CA) -- Forty year-old Nathaniel Hale, better known as G-funk collaborator Nate Dogg, is in court today, facing assault charges after an altercation with several Tea Party protesters outside of City Hall last Friday. Hale, who acts as spokesperson for a line of flavoured rolling papers called "Da Bomb Blunts," claimed to have arrived on the scene ready to protest the FDA's decision to ban flavoured cigarettes and paraphernalia only to discover an event very unlike what he was expecting.
"I had to [expletive] a couple of fools up,"  Dogg told reporters on the courthouse steps. "[Expletive]."

I am just going to post it here because I enjoy hurting other people

"Congratulations music fans! Give yourself a pat on the back. Somehow some way, we've managed to give the most love to the muso who most deserves it. In recent sales data, Jay-Z was listed as the most successful solo artist - like, ever. That means he's bigger than Elvis, which is kind of cool because he is actually better than Elvis. There really is some justice in the world and it's all thanks to ordinary people like you and me buying 50 million of his albums like 1996's Reasonable Doubt and 2001's Blueprint or 2003's The Black Album. His latest album Blueprint 3, isn't better than those but it's still a heck of a lot better than anything else on the charts at the moment. Perhaps more impressive, it's also better than most things off the charts at the moment (Sorry Alternative rappers, but Jay-Z was doing ironic and social-conscious hip-hop before you had moved on from your punk-rock phase after deciding breakdancing looked kind of cool) And he's still got it. Tracks DOA, A Star is Born, Already Home and Empire State of Mind are timeless and will definitely make his 'best of' whenever it is released. The manic Onto the Next is like an adrenaline shot right to your posterior. So go on, do the right thing - buy Jay-Z's new album. He deserves it"

I mean what's really pissing me off is the false dichotomy between backpacker and mainstream hip-hop she's just casually thrown out there for no apparent reason other than to reiterate that Jay-Z sells a lot of records but even ignoring that part I can't actually read this review without biting down into something to take my mind off the pain and I want to know exactly why.

By the way can I remind everyone that this was not written half-assed on an internet blog this was in print and widely disseminated

it shits me because I have been thinking that I am more passionate about music than a lot of people but I am not very good at writing about music so I don't do it very often so people don't have to read my crap opinions but this person just obviously hates music to the extent where she needs to ruin it for every other single human being alive.

So some young guy just heard me sneeze and told me God Bless you.  I was working at my desk and didn't hear him and he got really angry for some reason.  So he basically raised his voice pretty loud and said "excuse me I said God Bless you" and I was a bit confused and said thank you to him.  And he sat there and muttered to himself loud enough for anyone to hear him that I was being rude and that if you say God Bless you to someone they were supposed to say thank you back.

It seems like all the white trash dudes in my area are really looking for an excuse to be pissed off at someone.

Blaggy,

My roommate pulled the plug on my internet because he is a dick. I gave him my copy of Twilight Princess, and he would let me use his internet until he moved out. Instead, he revoked my internet and sold the game.

Bigger issues!

So I'm trying to apply for Social Services to help me move out. However, they won't help me move out unless I am moved out, and they will not give me money to help me with my rent unless I have enough money coming in to cover my rent. If I do move out, they will make my father start paying child support, which he can not afford, and he'll undoubtedly get in trouble for this. Also, I can't get food stamps because my father and mother are supposed to buy me food (ignore the fact that my mother is schizophrenic and pretty much incapable of helping anyone, and that my father has no money) - having no food, no job, and no money does not count as an emergency, so I can't get them.

Also, I'm really hungry right now.

On the other hand, I *am* working under the table and making a couple hundred dollars a month, and hopefully I will be able to make ends meet so that I can move out of my father's place anyways. Things are looking up!

Ugh. Brett, stupid review is stupid. I can't put into words why either. Why is she a journalist?

ETA: I've figured it out! Its because she doesn't actually say anything useful in the review. She just bitchs and whines. A good review would tell you why the reviewer feels this. Why the music is bad. But she just emotes every where, and never actually backs up why she thinks the album is so bad. There is no useful information in the whole review, and basically all you can take away from it is that she dislikes Jay-z. If she wants to write album reviews, fine, but she should save entries like that for her blog.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

If you're short on tools you can often grab a nail clipper and use the bit you're meant to clean under your fingernails with. A knife can often do the job as well, but that's obviously more dangerous.

I tried both of those, amongst other things, and nothing worked. I'm going to invade a PC repair shop tomorrow and beg for the world's tiniest screwdriver.

Skream is spinning in Denver tomorrow night but I have plans :(

Then on Saturday Caspa is spinning but I don't have anyone to go with :( I'm tempted to just go by myself. But that doesn't seem very fun.

I can't come up with a concept for a weekend that I could care less about right off hand, but I'll be thinking about it all weekend.

So, I'm going to a listening party for Porcupine Tree's latest album The Incident (yes, I know it's on the mediafire thread, I've been avoiding it).  Porcupine Tree has always been sort of "unoffensive" in my book, but I'm mainly going because my buddy is making pizza, and some other members of a band that's finally actually going to get playing music after a year and a half of me and the guitarist getting together occasionally are going to be there (wow, that was a long fucking clause to describe the band).  I'm not sure how I feel about the situation, though.

Also, I'm worried about my Redskins playing the Lions this weekend.  We barely beat the Rams, and I'm thinking that the Lions could actually be a better team than the Rams this year.  I really don't want to lose to the Lions.

In other words, nothing interesting is going on in my life.

I had my last ever shift at Cocos today! I start my new job on Monday (insert hyperventilating here).  In a cruel twist of fate I have managed to get an awful cold for my last day and worse, for my goodbye party tonight!  I am sick and feel awful but I am still going out to have a mucus filled probably rather quiet party time!

I really don't want to lose to the Lions.

No one wants their team to be the one that breaks the Lions' 18-game losing streak.

That being said, I hope Jay Cutler and da Bears stomp all over Seattle this weekend. I'm gonna wear my jersey around town, hopefully I won't get mugged.
