Dear Blug Thread,
Yesterday kicked my ass, but in a good way.
The access station called me to work a truck shoot at one of the city's big Concert in the Park events. So I had to be at the station at 8am to help gather gear. We got there just after 8:30 set up the cameras and laid the cables, etc. Got everything done around 11, so that gave us a couple hours to kill before the concert started at 1:30.
It was a skeleton crew, so once things got rolling, there weren't many opportunities for breaks. I was on camera, and it was hot out there (90-95F), fortunately there were plenty of trees, so most of the time the camera positions were in the shade. Lots of water consumed. 5 1/2 hours of (mostly) good music later, it was over. So now that we were all good and tired and hot, we had to go gather the cameras and 50lb cables and drag them all back to the truck. We got back to the station at 8:30 pm and after we stowed the gear and I got home, it was 10pm.
So a nearly 14-hr day and my only pay as a volunteer was a really nice lunch served by the concert organizers (they let us into the sponsor/VIP tent for that). It's really satisfying to put in a good day's work after not having a job for so long, and considering all the help I've had with my own show, I consider it a fair trade. So it's only a bonus that they're considering putting me on the staff crew list so that I get PAID for these gigs.

Oh, and one band had the most ridiculous/cool drummer ever. He used
whiffleball bats as drumsticks, and had his crash cymbals on extensions so they were 3 feet above his head. To top off the coolness, he wore his spares like swords across his back so if he broke/dropped any, he just reached over he shoulder and drew a new one!
