Nice.  Do it!  And you can also try to get some food before the show.  Don't go too overboard on that one, though (i.e. keep the choice of restaurant casual).  Remember that the date is the show, and food it just a chance to spend some time with her in a quieter environment.

p.s.  How would you like me to abbreviate Mixtape Girl?  Strictly, it should be MG, but that's a car company, so let's go with MTG?

Ah, yes, but now we should abbreviate Magic: The Gathering as M:tG.  I've seen that a lot, but the last time I looked at Magic was in grade school (which would be about 15 years ago).

It might not be Cambridge but I got myself into a Leeds University to study philosophy!
This is a time of mixed feelings for me! On the one hand, I'm going to the university I wanted to go to, with three of my best friends going to nearby univerisities (Two to Sheffield and one to York.) But on the other, My girlfriend got into Keele, which is rather a long way away, and also I am definitley going to university. Who the fuck let me into a university?

Dr. Rik Brydson, I believe.

Leeds is fairly well-placed on transport networks and has a rockin' pub which Tommy can direct you to, so I think you're sound. As long as you're going where you want to go and know you'll enjoy then you'll have an awesome time! I actually had some regrets about Cam because I'm more certain of Fun Times at Birmingham but I just remembered my best friend from school will be living at my college next year and I found out three more friends will be at Cambridge too so I'm feeling good about it again :)

Philosophy is pretty great too.

Regardless of where you go, it's going to be full of people your age so there's bound to be a few people who are into the same Fun Times as you. Though I have to admit, one of the reasons I didn't apply to Oxbridge (besides the fact that I was unwilling to work my socks off just to get in) is that I have a terrible prejudice that the sort of people who go to Oxford and Cambridge are all going to be snooty and full of themselves. I thought Leeds would have more the sort of people I would like to be friends with.

I applied to Leeds, it actually became my insurance choice after Exeter messed me about. I basically had the same ideas about Oxbridge as you; mine were reinforced by a talk given by a couple of professors from Cambridge. They had both been taught at Cambridge, but in different colleges, so they basically argued about which college was better for the majority of the talk. That really put me off.

Okay, this has gotten out of hand.  I have problems with both shoulders, but it seems primarily in my left shoulder.  This comes from playing upright bass incorrectly for a number of years.  Some days it will only start hurting if I actually do something (which ranges from doing push-ups to sitting around to sleeping on my side), but others - like today - it hurts all day.  Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing?  Should I try to strengthen the muscles?  Should I not use my shoulder ever again?  I just want to not have to worry/be in incredible pain every time I move my arms.

addendum:  It's quite annoying because I'm left-handed, by the way.

It could be a lot of things, my first guess would be rotator cuff tendonitis but that's just a guess from the little information given. Just go see a doctor who will (hopefully) diagnose it correctly and help you get better.

Well, they aren't, mostly (though there are always some, anywhere); but the problem is that if there is a leaning this way you have reinforced it by your choice.  The government tells Oxbridge to be "more inclusive", but the plain fact is they are leaning over backwards to try to overcome this prejudice.

Good luck with the interview!

As I contemplate where I'm going to find my next bit of employment, I surprisingly realized that I'm 4 for 4 lifetime at job interviews. Not something I'd have expected from a self-identified introvert and shy person.

But for now, I start the community college classes in TV production on Monday, and it's been a while since I bounced off my attempt at university (physics) some years ago, so I'm still a bit nervous. I LOVED learning new stuff, so I always got a lot out of each class, even when I was failing to do the work and sleeping in way too often. I feel like my advice to all you heading off to your great adventures is contradictory: Don't screw up like I did, but also realize that if it doesn't work out for some reason, it's not a huge tragedy, you'll do fine either way.  8-)

friend/bandmate/all around good dude called me and said he was diagnosed with bell's palsy? uhhhhhhhhh gonna try and see him tonight

My fiancee had Bell's palsy a year ago.  It was pretty freaky at first because suddenly one day she couldn't move half her face, but the doctors said it usually just goes back to normal over time and sure enough within a few weeks her face was normal again.  Hopefully that's what your friend has, just random temporary paralysis, because I don't think anyone needs to be told how much it would suck to permanently lose half the motor function in your face.

A friend of my brother had Bell's Palsy earlier this year. He's basically fine now and you can't really notice it. One side of his face is a little slower than the other but it ain't even a thing now. From what he was saying about 60% of the time people fully recover from it.

Unfortunately, I don't take doctors seriously with injuries any more, after getting misdiagnosed twice with a simple case of tendonitis in my left wrist.  I finally had to go to a hand surgeon.  What would be the equivalent specialist for a shoulder?

England call-up for Jonathan Trott is 'desperation', says Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting has dismissed England's decision to call up the Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott for the deciding Ashes Test as "a bit of desperation".

While England are boosted by the return of the all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, man of the match in the victory at Lord's, Trott's debut is a response to Ravi Bopara being hopelessly lacking in confidence and runs at No3. England considered Mark Ramprakash and Robert Key before plumping for Trott as a replacement.

"It probably shows a bit of desperation, I guess, on their behalf, to be doing that," said Ponting. "When we arrived, which is only a couple of months ago, everyone was talking about how good Bopara was and how much of an impact he was going to have on the series.

J TROTT - 119 (193 balls)

Speaking of Apple and their reliability, my first computer was an Apple.  Is an Apple.  It was purchased in '95.  Maybe '94.  It still works fine, except that the red went out on the monitor, so it's constantly a blue-green colour.  Apples are wonderful, except the ones back earlier in the '90s when they were licensed to be cloned and were shit.

I wasn't planning on moving my stuff out so suddenly, but one of my housemates pulled a dick move and threatened to chuck everything I owned out onto the street. I promptly went down and removed my guitars and computer.
Next week, i'm looking around colleges for a course in mechanics. It'll take a year until I can be a productive member of society, but it'll be great knowing how cars work. Then I can maybe fix the worrying flappy noise coming from my car whenever I turn right...
Very excited.

I hate Rochester. I seriously, really, despise that place. I had to live there for only a few months, and in that time I ended up having knives pulled on me, got into a fight with a gang (which was a long story) and my friend ended up getting stabbed to death there. Fuck Rochester, it's the worst place I can think of to be.

Okay, well, I mean, there's like Somalia and stuff but out of all my personal experiences Rochester was the worst.

Dear Mr. Bassist,
We've just realized that you're actually a moron.  Why are you here?  Don't come back.

Sincerely,
University of Rochester

p.s.  Really excited about the Grand Prix in Valencia tomorrow.  McLaren seem to have a competitive car, which should make things a bit more interesting, though I do expect them to be running way far ahead unless Hamilton or Kovalainen stuffs is stupid and stuffs it, which is fairly probable.  Hopefully it'll be close.

Then I took her home and we had mad makeouts on her trampoline.
Got locked out, my bumflaps. Last time I trust anything you tell me.

She was locked out, we just used the time productively.

So I do painting commissions.
I have like 45 models that I am supposed to be painting for people.
Instead I painted 2 Dwarf Samurai and a Dwarf Monk.
I continually impress myself with how good of a painter I am.

I slept pretty late today :) I'd have stayed in bed all day but the cats needed feeding, I think I'm turning into an adult with responsibility and shizzle.

Guys who were at Camp Edith, you remember I got really excited about buying a Julia Roberts video in the thrift store with all the baby books and the S,S,HS book? Well I tried to watch it today and it got wiped going through security so all I have is two hours of blank reel and an irritatingly interesting-sounding blurb on the box.

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."
