Sounds like maybe you're setting yourself impossible goals. Make them smaller, and don't look on it as failure if you don't meet them, just see it as delayed success.

I have printed a picture of the word "focus" (one of those photos where they focus in on the word in the dictionary and all the other words fall out of focus) and stuck it over my computer. For some reason that word works for me because I've chosen it as my word for the year. If I glance up and see it, it often makes me stop messing around and do what I'm meant to be doing. But you need to find whatever it is that works for you - trial and error.

I had been thinking about it on and off for a while, to be honest, because it's something a lot of the bloggers I follow did last year. I thought about all the things I would like to improve in my life, and that one word did seem to encapsulate most of them. Other words I've seen people choose are "transformation", "purposeful", "whimsy", "constant", "pursue"... basically it can be anything, as long as you are reasonably clear as to what that word means for your life.

Here is a not particularly informative website about the concept which I just found. It's typically an approach taken by Christians as it chimes with a lot of other Christian beliefs but that doesn't mean it's not valuable to people of other faiths and none.

oh hey I finally get to post in this thread

I think I can tell I'm really getting high by the fact that I'm not sure if I just said something out loud or not
like I can see myself saying something in my head
but if I did say it I wouldn't be able to see myself saying it

Man, I wish I had a cat to talk to. I used to have a cat that would drink little bits of whiskey with me, just some stray. That thing was like the collest cat I knew. . .

The boyfriend agrees. I think I was just making stupid faces all night. And weird noises. And possibly dancing and some singing and some rolling around on the floor.

I might have had a bit too much. But the good news is, everything I remember actually happened!

I was so tired last night that I felt like I was drunk. It was...interesting.

I get that too, I call it "sleep madness". Since I tend to drink alcohol on the same occasions as I stay up late, I'm not actually sure that I know the difference between "drunk" and "sleep mad".

Has anyone else ever tried the following: bite an apple - then take a sip of Laphroaig (quarter cask). An interesting effect! I'm experimenting that as having water on the side became a bit boring. Or may be I was too lazy to go refill the water tumbler - your pick.

The morning after I came up with the theory that the tiny amounts of weak acid in the apple opens up the taste buds much the same way as ice water might.

Just a theory - further experiments may prove it wrong.

Or it could be ... Fosters.

I don't care. When entering the US I had grown up to like the tats of lager, because that's all we had at that time. So I had no problems with the beer in the good olä U.S. of A. First  Michelob then Bud, then micro brewery produce. Whatever, it gets the job done. It was kind of embarassing when my graduate student had to educate me about finer points of beer during a math conference in Bavaria...

In case you're wondering. Tonight my 40+ floorball team had a bit of sauna and beer after the game. So Imma totally wasted.

Beer and chilly roasted peanuts. Yeahhhhh....

I tend to only drink with company, so I'm always a bit of retrospectivist in this thread, but on Friday I was probably drunker than a karaoke bar full of Japanese businessmen. I had a bottle of sparkling wine to myself, and that was maybe my 12th drink. Yes, I was classing it as 'a' drink on that occasion.  :psyduck:

All I know is that there's a lot of ice, plus fresh squeezed oranges and alcohol. I went on a little beer tour with boyfriend's family yesterday for his dad's birthday and that was the only alcoholic drink I had, at a little bar in Fells Point.

In England it is (was?) a type of mediocre bottled cyder [sic], made by Gaymer's.
