TheCallMeFez:
I recently experienced this, and its a little weird, but it saves them an awkward conversation later. It saves Veronica from having to watch what she says, lest she let something slip( As she's been known to do) When you have something that is a big part of your life, it can be nice to be around people that don't know about it, but its also nice not to need to have The Conversation at some point later and try to explain it to them .
DSL:
"So, how about your kid? I dated his ex once ... "
Storel:
What seems weird to me is that when Veronica was first introduced, we found out that "Veronica Vance" is her professional name, and she goes by "Veronica Reed" (her married name) in her private life. And while it's well known in our universe that Veronica Vance = Veronica Reed, in the QCverse there is no webcomic broadcasting the everyday lives of these characters to the Internet at large... so her private name should be much more, well, private.
So if Jim was googling "Veronica Reed", he shouldn't have come up with any links for Veronica Vance unless he was digging really hard -- a lot harder than I would normally expect for a first date.
Although... for Hollywood celebrities, biographical websites often include their birth names as well as their stage names, but they're generally a lot more famous and more thoroughly researched than porn celebrities. Still, Wikipedia editors can be pretty obsessive at times, so I suppose it's possible that VV's Wikipedia page actually had her real name on it, in which case my above analysis is completely invalid.
Thrillho:
You seriously think she'd be able to keep her real name that secret? Only people like Banksy manage that nowadays and that's because almost no-one has even seen his face.
FunkyTuba:
It would surprise me very little if searching for Veronica Reed in QCverse returned:
Showing results for Veronica Vance
Search instead for Veronica Reed
