Vegans and vegetarians seem to be more disgusted by a kill date than the part of the label that says "BEST BEFORE DEATH".
That's right, when it comes to labeling food, vegans and vegetarians have no objection if you eat meat as long as the animal is still alive. What a bunch of sick fucks.
That or maybe they should get someone who reads meat packaging labels more frequently than they do to proof read their marketing material.
Also, while I like the idea of a kill date on it, the vast majority of meat eaters know little about the meat preparation process through the slaughterhouse and onward. What I would really like is to get a label telling me the name and location of the farm, what kind of stock the animal came from, what terrain it was raised in, the population density in housing, feed types and feeding regimen, slaughtering process, slaughter date, hanging time, storage methods, and jointing date.
Supermarkets tend to be a bit cagey about this sort of stuff which I why I'm glad I live close to a local, independent butcher who likes to be able to provide at least some of this information.
I have to admit that I once got a bit mardy with a vegetarian who tried to guilt me on the eating meat thing. They then freely admitted that they just tended to buy the cheapest stuff they could and by extension didn't really care about the provenance of their food and whether it's production included fair treatment of workers, ethical methods of horticulture and also dairy management. I was an asshole about it though to managed to lose at winning an argument.
