More like total nutter ends up getting someone hurt || killed because they haven't read the book that they supposedly follow and says that one ought not to test their $DEITY.

Just my own opinion here but I'm find the term "total nutter" or indeed just "nutter" as a descriptor for people with mental illnesses to be completely inappropriate. It feels very othering and I'm hoping that we can agree that this is a thing that we don't actually do.

Sorry about that.  I do have several diagnosed mental illnesses myself, and have actually spent time in hospital for them, on more than one occasion.  I do have a bad habit about being rather cavalier about the subject, after I started being more open about my own experiences, in order to *diminish* the otherness and personal feeling of stigma.  I'll try to be more careful about my language in the future, but there's obviously something wrong with this person.

How about if we use the term "nutter" or the like to talk about someone who's otherwise mentally stable who does something crazy & stupid? Then you're not making fun of the mentally different, but rather an individual who made a bad decision.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to equate them to those with mental illnesses through use of a term that has perjorative connotations.

Potentially problematic in the same way that calling something/someone 'gay' when you mean bad is.

Oh, I had that in my younger years. Although maybe it was because one of the teams we faced was the team of a catholic school. So everything was delegated to g_d. They also never lost, but that's a different story for a different day

I went to a Catholic University and we'd say the Lord's Prayer before our games. It's weird how I've pretty much only said it before sports games and after confessions (I only had two of the latter). Hey, it got some people pumped up. FUCK YA, GOD HATES THAT TEAM OVER THERE. I always found it silly, only because why the fucklecakes would God care about a sports game? Or, maybe he is a sports fan, and he just hates every team from Cleveland.
