The first quote is from the Starbucks tumblr

Quote
Quote
Los Angeles, New York City, Cardiff, Bangalore — At any Starbucks in any country in the world, real-life connection is happening not only across the table over coffee, but across the counter right when you walk in.

One time I walked into a starbucks bathroom and my Barista, Shane, was making a real-life connection with his mouth on the dick of some guy who worked at H&M.

It's also a great representation of how data arrives at places. With the Serial bus, you get a more or less consistent stream of 50 kids every minute. With the Parallel bus, you get all 7000 kids at a time, but after a while.

Which explains why most peripherals nowadays have moved into the USB connection paradigm. Nobody wants to suddenly deal with 7000 kids.

About 137cm. A foot is a little over 30cm, closer to 30.5 but 30'll only put you a 2-3cm off if you just need a general idea.

12 inches in a foot.

It's easy to remember, just count toes = 12 toes on your feet, 12 inches in a foot.

12 inches in a foot.

the advantage of 12 is that you can easily divide it up into 2s, 3s, 4s, and 6s, which is handy for everyday usage. what's really fucked is the number of feet in a mile: 5280, which is 8 furlongs. a furlong is equivalent to 660 feet, 220 yards, 40 rods, or 10 chains, which nobody anywhere ever uses!

basing everything on 10 is good for doing hard math, but 10 can only divide cleanly into 2s and 5s.

what we really need to do is switch our entire global society over to a base-12 number system.

Dude.  Imperial units have more usages.  Like if you want a pint (the Imperial pint is 20oz, which is larger than the American pint, or the 0.5L glasses).

Once you get a high enough temperature, the difference between Kelvin and Celsius is negligible. (K=C+273.15 IIRC)

Well, frozen or fried would have to replace "dead" in order to cover both ends.  Even then, basing temperature based off of comfort makes it too subjective.  What I find to be "comfortable" and "hot" are a bit lower than most people in this part of my state.  I don't consider it "cold" unless something is frozen.
