ReindeerFlotilla:
It's probably been said before, but when I encountered this, many a year ago, it spoke to me.

My newest phone didn't have an option for that. The closest it came was a beeping sound. So I located the built-in tones directory from the old phone and copied it over to the additional tones on the SDcard for the new one. Because when my phone rings, it's going to goddamn ring.

Method of Madness:
See, I used to think that. But now I have a slightly more forgiving rule. My ringtone will never have words in it.

BeoPuppy:
My ringtone is a recording of my kid. This makes me happy.

That's adorable, Gavin.

My folks both have me playing piano as their ringtones.

My own one is Dead Man In My Bed by Nick Cave because it terrifies the shit out of everyone else when they hear it.

I'm not completely reactionary. My first cell used a song as tone for a week. I missed a lot of calls that week. My most recent phone had the default ring song for a day, because I didn't think the change it, after getting all of the other settings set. I almost missed the one call I got, but someone else thought their phone was ringing.

I'm from the age where phones rang. Apparently, I need retraining to function with something other than a bell. I won't say I've grown inflexible, because I haven't. But the technology allows me to make it sound any noise I want, and it's one less thing to worry about. I don't have any kids or other sentimental reasons to personalize the sound, and few enough people use ringing these day that I can be reasonably certain that sound is my phone. When it isn't, I know there's a kindred spirit near (or someone with a really old cell phone).
