Story time!On my old school bus, we were forced to listen to one of those horrible commercial radio stations (SAFM, though it's not Hit107) every day.
Despite all their bragging about it being a "no-repeats" station, all it meant was that they'd play the exact same playlist
Every. Single. Gorram. Day.
I'd begun to associate certain songs with destinations on the route to school, down by Fechner's Bridge it would be Greenday's
When September Ends, on the hill into Angaston, it would be Maroon 5's
She Will Be Loved, going down the main street of Nuriootpa, it would always be
Kryptonite.
I hated that song. I hated it so much. I mean, I hated all of those songs, but I held a special hatred for Kryptonite.
One day, the radio hosts were giving a little backstory about the song and the band that wrote it, saying that it was written and a demo of the song was done here in Australia, in Studio 52 in Melbourne, before being recorded properly in New York.
A couple of years later, I found myself in Melbourne, and heard the song played in a shopping centre. Reminded me of the hatred I felt back in high school. I figured, while I'm here, I may as well go visit the studio, reprimand them for helping bring this pox on the world of music to life.
So, long story short, I found the place. Walked up to the receptionist and asked them:
Me: "Is this the place where
Kryptonite was written?"
Receptionist: 'Kryptonite?'
Me: "Yeah. Was that horrible song written here?"
Receptionist: 'I'm sorry, but no. That was
Three Doors Down.'
