Re Juno, the probe just put into orbit round Jupiter, I found this on another forum:

"Jupiter/Neus was a philanderer, and many of Jupiter's moons are named after folks he philandered with. Juno is Jupiter's wife. Juno is going to inspect Jupiter and its moons. NASA literally sent Jupiter's wife to suss out what her husband has been up to."

Juno that Jupiter has sixty-seven known moons? Whatever he's been up to, he's been doing it a lot.

I'm really upset that there's no Know Your Meme page for this because I really desperately need it to have some kind of social context.
I have literally never heard of that before and now my Youtube history is tainted with schlager music forever. (Nah, I am kidding.)
There is that one video explaining a bit of it. The song itself is sung from the viewpoint of an anthromorphic spruce who says we have to protect it and its kind, otherwise Earth will be pretty bad off (basically).

From the top of my head, I can think of at least 5 women he had sex with: Lada; Alcmene; Europa; ...the one he came down on a golden rain... the wive of the king of Crete... and I am forgetting a few I know about.

I understood the (translation of) the lyrics, I just couldn't figure out what social context the whole thing fit into.  That video helped quite a bit, thanks.

I feel the same way. I don't like being on the phone much anyway but placing orders especially makes me nervous. Even if it's just two things, I'll write them down on paper for reference during the call.

"Uhh, hi... yes. I would like to, uh, place an order, please"

"Okay, what would you like?

"Oh, umm, I would like..." -looks at paper- "a pizza"

"Okay what size and toppings would you like?"

I have an irrational fear of talking on the phone in general. Primarily because I have a history of psychosis and talking on the phone to disembodied voices is a bit, shall we say, disquieting. Phone conversations always fill me with a nagging worry that perhaps I'm not really talking to anyone.

That strikes me as a more rational than irrational fear, I completely understand how that would mess you up.

Phone conversations are incredibly mentally taxing to begin with because we're not used to speaking to someone without seeing them. Not only is there nothing in front of your eyes to focus your attention on, there's the complete absence of nonverbal cues that makes it require so much more focus than a regular conversation.

I used to dread phone conversations but not so much now. But when I called my telecom company and an auto-response system told me to speak my area code, including letters in a phonetic alphabet with no formal definition, my only reaction was "fuck off".

Well, there's not a complete lack of non verbal cues, there's still tone, which can actually tell you a lot, often more than the actual words. It is, however, far more difficult than face to face conversation, which is actually something I excel at. I inherited my mother's almost preternatural subconscious ability to read people, but it mostly only works in direct, face to face interactions.

Before I started driving, I got taxis all the time from one local service that my family always uses and still does because my mum doesn't drive. Helps with the phone anxiety a lot when you can just go, "Hi, it's [name]. Can I get a lift from home?" And they know where you mean without further explanation. Parents' house is also in a slightly hard to describe location so first time calls were always a pain but we quickly developed regular takeouts based on which delivery driver knew our location best.

Most tonic waters are sweetened, either with syrup or artificial sweeteners. For example, Schweppes tonic water: Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate (preservative), Qunine, Natural Flavors. The "diet" version simply substitutes saccharine for the sugar.

Personally, I prefer iced tea. It's not fizzy, of course, but I suppose you could carbonate it in a soda-siphon.

Personally, I find that Cola not so 'Harsh' to drink.  Don't get me wrong, I like Coke and various other Colas (with the exception of Pepsi - I just don't like the taste) but if I can get that one, I'll buy it as it seems a 'Smoother' taste.

I have never once heard of someone who prefers RC Cola. I only ever see it made fun of in pop culture and even then it never really shows up. I don't think I've ever actually seen it.

This soda talk does remind of something I saw on reddit the other day. I happen to really like Root Beer, but apparently Japanese people hate it because it's a similar flavor to some of their medicines.

RC Cola is an acquired taste. Its diet version (Diet Rite) was technically the first of the popular "diet colas" before Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi took the country by storm.

And going back to my original question: does soda exist without sugar or artificial sweeteners? (And seltzer doesn't count, I mean soda with actual flavor).

Although I suppose I will try getting a soda stream and carbonating iced tea.

Googling it just brought me to products with "natural" sweeteners. Frankly, I'm having trouble thinking of any non tea, coffee or alcohol related drinks that don't have any sweeteners (real or artificial or whatever). Besides water, of course, but who drinks that?

Dihydrogenmonoxide is highly addictive. If you have it even once, you have to keep ingesting it on a daily basis, otherwise you'll go into withdrawal and die after three to five days.
