I don't see any snake pics that have that diamond pattern; the closest are some western rattlesnakes, but that's out of area (and there's no rattle in the comic).

Maybe it's supposed to be a corn snake, but it looks closer to a milk snake (though still not very close).

Not in any way an expert, just been looking at images.

 I'm sure she's been injecting a little bit of snake venom every day to build up resistance in case a situation were to come up where she could pick up a snake and let it bite her for shock value.

Someone's reply to Jeph on Twitter (that Jeph replied to) suggests that it's a northern copperhead, which looks like the comic except with colours inverted.

In which case according to Wiki she probably won't die but will hurt like hell and should get it looked at regardless.

The snake, however, has contracted incurably cheerful obliviousness. Also, it's addicted to banana smoothies.

Em's face in the last panel is..disturbing.  It's so serious looking, even for her.
