I read your response, LTK, and realized that 'Hollow Knight and Hades are similar games' only makes sense to me. Allow me to explain.

Both are games that I tried because other people (like in my friend circle) absolutely RAVED about them and so I thought 'why not?'
Both are games that are hard (for me) and quite unforgiving (HK more so than Hades. 'Boo, you died, now go out and retrieve your soul again!')
Both are games that I probably would have loved 10, 15, 20 years ago, but that I now can't be bothered with.

Which is why, for me, those games are very similar.

I tend to play to relax and have fun, which neither HK nor Hades can do for me. There is much about both of them that I love (graphics, story line) but it doesn't outweigh my frustration.

That makes sense. I generally assume that people check if they themselves would enjoy a game before going off to play it. I've fallen into that trap myself often: I'd read a review of something that completely convinced me of a game being the Best Thing Ever, and when I'd go play it, it turned out not to be the kind of game I enjoy at all. So I've gotten to be very skeptical of friend recommendations for anything outside my preferred genres.

yeah okay it's captured me a bit more. still an obtuse bastard. but gonna play with it some more. beat my first year. took me a bit to figure out how that boss worked, but not too long
also met that fucking moon at one point in my year two attempts. holding off actually asking for hints on it, now. dropped a grinder/fertilizer tractor on it, which was interesting if not ultimately effective. makes me wonder how it'll respond to the megatron tractor, lol

also started Control, cuz i'm just.... really fucking stuck right now in the house, extra amount, so a good time to get to things on the Microsoft game pass nonsense. Like it, though im early. and it fucking crashed, sigh

also i can see how hollow knight and hades can feel similar. they present and in a lot of ways work/handle differently enough that they don't register as the same for me, but on further reflection (especially after so much 'dancing' in doing bosses hitless in HK), well the gist of the ballet isn't so utterly different? the wine sprung from different vines, and yet there are some tastes between the two
