It's nice to see her without her glasses again. IIRC it's been since the wedding, hasn't it?

--- End quote ---

I took her greeting to be full of nerves and directed more towards towards Marten

Me too.

--- Quote ---PS First post, sorry I have no shiny Firefly references to make it a good one

WHAT? No Firefly reference? All right, you're welcome anyway.

Don't worry, I will aim to misbehave in any future posts

Well, it's a college town, so a 23-24 y/o is gonna get carded.

At what point, do you suppose, even in lib-ruhl Massachusetts, is a trans person able to change his or her gender designation on official government ID or other documents?

Claire gets carded, bartender makes some comment in front of everyone, involuntary outing?

My first thought was that Wil is the bartender and Claire's with Wil's friends, so no need to check ID. But Jeph's gone to great pains to show us that this is a different bar.

Could be a whole other kind of drama on its way.

If this was the case, then one would think Claire would've had trouble with her "identity" at Henry Reed's Wedding not once....but twice.

--- Quote from: Loki on 17 Sep 2014, 02:38 ---I am sorry, I did not mean it to come across as that. I meant that the implication was (I think) that he wouldn't do a "let's milk Claire's trans status for drama" story arc (then again, I may be misremembering).

--- End quote ---

No apology necessary, but thank you.

And true, but consider a few things:

-Jeph clearly stated that, when researching for Claire's backstory, he was horrified by the violence that trans people often face
-Clinton's pathological concern for Claire's safety has to have been a smoking gun of some kind.
-The gang is clearly at a townie bar outside of downtown, all of which in Northampton are like half roughneck/half hipster. The locals aren't always as friendly and welcoming and open-minded as that town as a whole takes pains to be.

To some extent (Claire' Ativan moment, her coming out to Marten and Emily in the first place) there's already been SOME drama about it.

If I had to guess I'd say they are at Hugo's which is still in Northampton proper.

Neko_Ali:
A quick moment of research reveals that it is pretty easy comparatively to get the gender marker on your ID changed in Massachusetts. All that is required is a letter from a medical professional that is treating you stating that you are the gender you identify as. Much easier than many other states which require proof of bottom surgery or just never allow it at all. So in all likelihood Claire's ID matches her gender.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to start making plans to move to Massachusetts...

Is it cold in here?:
In any case someone contemplating a hate crime would have to get through The Pugnacious Peach first. If Momo shows up then the forces of evil would have no chance.
