Poor Amber! That was a powerful flashback! I wonder how long she'll just be sitting there, reliving that moment over and over again?

EDIT
Okay, rather than double-post, I'll put this here.

I have no idea what "oh oh" means.

Also Sal, what makes you think Danny is remotely capable of doing so?

It's interesting and lots of people have noticed this. Sal and Danny's experiences of Amazi-Girl have been essentially precisely opposite. Because of this, they have very different views of her, both of which being extreme and not entirely reflecting the full reality.

I don't think he could stop her even if he wanted to Sal.

And I think Sal's a bit biased about this.

I would say they're both biased in opposite directions. Gotta agree that Danny couldn't do anything, though, Amazi-girl would wreck his face off.

Considering that Sal has mostly seen Amazigirl doing some *really* dangerous shit and had to save her kinda makes Sal the rational one here.

I was mostly remembering that old arc where Amazi-girl came after Sal & friends for having beers in a parking lot, and how she seemed to be annoyed and dismissive of her then. She's biased because her image is that Amazi-girl comes after stupid, insignificant shit for the most part and being somewhat successful at that gave her the impression she could take out a school shooter. Danny might not know exactly how far that went, and HIS experiences with Amazi-girl have been primarily positive. Danny's seen the positive and missed the negatives, while Sal's seen the negatives and missed the positives

And thus, Danny learns how over-the-top Amazi-girl's superheroine antics have gone, leading towards an awkward conversation with the wifey (Do not correct me, I'm aware they're barely gf/bf, but dammit I appreciate alliterative analogies. All alliteration, actually.)

The question here is this: Is Amazi-Girl selfless, taking risks out of a desire to help, or is she self-destructive and this whole thing is an attempt to punish or even destroy herself? I argue that it's the former but, as with many suffering mental anguish, it's a near-run thing sometimes.

There was a question? Amber is not Amazi-girl out of a sense of altruism. She does it to have an outlet to dump her more violent urges. She has even said as much. Amazi-girl gets to beat up on 'bad guys' so Amber doesn't have to deal with those feelings. Unfortunately for her, things don't work that way. Amber still gets those urges... see running into Sal and her reaction to it. Instead of dealing with her mental health problems in a healthy manner, she is compounding them by creating an alternate identity.

I don't think she is specifically self destructive. As in, I don't think she has a conscious desire to die, probably not even a subconscious desire. But she is quite frankly been running to close to the odds already. It's only a matter of time until she runs into someone she can't intimidate or beat down. Or she'll wind up doing some insanely dangerous stunt when someone isn't around to save her life. Life isn't like super hero comics. Even those who live as real life super heroes know that, which is why they don't do the crazy stuff Amazi-girl does. If she doesn't stop, then eventually something bad is going to happen. Best case? She'll get caught playing vigilante and arrested. Worst case? Another stunt pulled like when she saved Becky will wind up with her dead. Most likely she'll wind up getting seriously injured and having her 'secret identity' revealed... with the attendant police questioning and probably arrest.

She has done some good as Amazi-girl, sure. She might even convince herself sometimes that is why she does it. But if she doesn't end it herself, sooner rather than later, something else is going to... and end it badly.

Even worse, she'll get someone else killed. Her stunts during the Toedad chase easily could have resulted in several fatal car crashes.

BTW, I don't remember, but is Amber (and thus Amazi-Girl) aware that Sal is Walkys sister?

And thus, Walky has broken down the idea of the superhero's 'gritty reboot,' where we realize they're just folk who've had a life that lead them to their place, that there's always that contradiction between the humanity of their person and the unattainable 'perfection' of their image.

Or possibly, he said some Walky-type shit, and Amazigirl continued her Amazigirl, sorta-emo, definitely-frightening thing. I am not sure. It's St. Patrick's Day and I'm an American who occasionally falls into the stereotypes of cultural norms, do not judge me.

Am I the only one who shivered in dread upon reading Amazi-Girl, the likely DID-suffering costumed adventurer of DoA, telling Walky that 'her voices' shout at her?

On a lighter note, Willis has put up on Tumblr a poster he's created commemorating what is likely Amazi-Girl's greatest moment to date:

Who needs Deadpool when we have Amazi-Girl around?

Pretty sure she meant that figuratively. Nothing so far has suggested she has hallucinations, just flashbacks.

Although, personally I can identify with both a figurative and literal interpretation. Yay for PTSD combined with depression and psychosis.

But I think if he tries too hard, it might have the opposite effect and drive Amber/Amazi-Girl to do something monumentally dangerous and stupid.

Ruth is not the most pleasant or likeable of the characters in this strip. However, today's strip (3/22) really worries me. The whole way Willis portrays her is at a woman at the very end of her tether with no ability to see any way forwards where she has happiness or any other thing that makes life worth having.

If it wasn't for Willis's insistence that none of the major cast will die in DoA, I'd be genuinely afraid that the character was about to be killed off.

Well I mean it's already out there so whatever at this point. Also like I said, I was objecting to Willis giving spoilers (which honestly that really isn't because who knows if a comment means anything), not Benergy's post.

Jocelyn's face in the final panel...

Correct, Jocelyn only told Ethan in comic.  Considering how sheltered Joyce was, do you really think Jocelyn would risk telling her and letting it get back to the parents?

Something tells me John knows and there's a reason Joyce (and perhaps the family) wasn't invited to the wedding.  I am guessing its because she's of a different religion.

I've got several thoughts arising from today's strip (3/30).
  • Why has Joyce never met Christi? Is it because her parents disapprove of John having married a non-WASP? Or, worse (from their perspective) is that a pet name for Christopher?
  • Someone with more archive-fu on DoA would have to instruct me but I'm not sure if we've ever seen Jocelyn and Becky on-screen together; I'm just wondering if Becky had confided in her. that Jocelyn has known Becky's orientation for some time and has been encouraging her, from her own bitter experience, that it is better to come out sooner rather than later;
  • I wonder what Joyce's problem is with Indian food? Too spicy, maybe?
  • Am I the only one who thinks that this meal is going to turn out into a long series of revelations for Joyce that will lead her to going home with a totally inverted idea of what her family is like and just how much influence her parents have over her siblings?
Finally, I really think that the last panel is heart-breaking, both in Joyce's sad wish for a sister and Jocelyn's look at guilt at having not given her one out of fear.

I'm not sure if you're being funny. We've known for a long time that Joyce is incredibly picky with her food. She deconstructed a taco so the foods wouldn't be touching (actually on the cast page one of her likes is, "keeping foods separate on her plate") and her two favourite foods seem to be mac'n'cheese and ice cream. Her idea of trying sushi was swallowing a single piece whole without chewing.
