Mad Max: Fury Road
« on: 14 May 2015, 08:30 »

So...I have heard great things about this movie.   :psyduck:  I am trying to go in with low expectations but the reviews I've seen has been really good.

At first I was torn about seeing it or not. (As I really enjoy the original ones.) But then I read that a couple of days ago and decided that yes, I definitely will see it now.

I saw it on Tuesday, as I got free passes for a friend and me.  I went in with very low expectations, and I was blown away.  Easily the best of the series, and I really want to see it again.  The older movies were okay, and good I guess for what they were, but this was just a very good movie, period.

It was pretty great, no real slow parts or anything to slow down the movie. Furiosa was, of course, a total badass throughout the whole movie.

Just got back from seeing it.

I am totally buying the Bluray when it comes out, the whole movie was made from 100% pure refined awesomeness.

Saw it today. Dr. Fiancee and I pregamed it by watching Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome a few days before hand (she hadn't seen them since she was really little and remembers nearly nothing).  It was a very good action movie, probably the best I've seen in a decade. Plot is thin but action is intense with only a few instances to breath in between.  I say go see it (avoid 3D).  Its just a mad max movie.  If you seen a mad max movie you kind of know what to expect as far as setting and Max, though its not required.  Its not a serial series  in that if you don't watch 1-3 you'll be lost.  Each movie is basically him passing through a portion of apocalyptia.  He's not out to save the world, just passing through and getting mixed up into the suck.

I'd argue "plot was thin", while not exactly wrong, paints a slightly inaccurate picture.

The paint of the plot was thin, but the use of that paint, on the other hand....

Oh I agree, with what paint they used for the plot was thin but beautifully done.  It just wasn't a deep plot with a lot of character development and such.  You wont walk away from the movie feeling like you've learned something new about the world or yourself.  more than likely you'll be walking away all hyped up on adrenaline.

I didn't say their wasn't emotion or feelings in the movie, just that it wasn't something you're going to walk away from feeling like you learned something new about yourself or the universe.

Went to see it last night. It was awesome.

This is one of those movies that I think has a lot of appeal for fans of those old school action movies from the '80s that just don't get made anymore. It's not made exactly the same way but it has so much of what made those films brilliant but with those elements that would be anachronistic and replacing them with contemporary themes.

Like a lot of people, I was really apprehensive about what it would be like, despite the great swathes of hype. I only went because it was a day for a film with explosions, violence and a healthy dose of nonsense. It delivered on all counts and then some. I can think of a bunch of other actors that could have played Furiosa and the film still would have been great and enjoyable but Theron really just bumped it up to the next level. It's almost like she's too good for something like this but you're so glad she is.

Can't help but wonder if Miller quietly linked a narrative of Toecutter to Immortan Joe, possibly via Lord Humongous as Max's persistent Nemesis.

Now, how many MRAs/meninists do we have to kill to get a spin-off starring Furiosa?

*Raises hand*

I'm not really much of a movie-goer (last thing I saw in theaters before this was Guardians of the Galaxy, before that...Lincoln, I think?), and so I didn't pay any attention to the movie until a few days before it came out, when the complaints started.  Then I watched the trailer (and re-watched it, multiple times), and went to see it opening weekend, because it looked so damn awesome.  The shrieks of whiny manbabies were also a factor.
