you know those songs that are just so loveably catchy they get caught in your head and don't leave for days? i mean, like good catchy songs... not annoying get-out-of-my-head-or-i'll-kill-you songs. let's list them!

"call and return"- hellogoodbye
"long division"- the aislers set
"she's the one"- heavens to betsy
"all for swinging you around"- new pornographers
"our retired explorer (dines with michel foucault in paris, 1961"- the weakerthans
"do right, do wrong"- breaker! breaker!

plus basically anything by mates of state. especially "ha ha", "fluke", "middle is gold", "quit doin' it", and "everyone needs an editor"

haha yea surfer rosa is so catchy! i'm always singing the songs. "oh my golly" gets caught in my head a lot but i can't really sing it since i don't understand the spanish...

and ha it's ok um hellogoodbye is a drivethru band, so i'm guessing most indie people wouldn't know them. heavens to betsy was corin tucker's band before sleater-kinney.  http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=321" target="_blank">the weakerthans, http://www.breakerbreaker.org/music.htm" target="_blank">breaker! breaker!, and http://www.epitonic.com/artists/theaislersset.html" target="_blank">the aislers set are just wonderful.

yea yea i'm sick and i have nothing better to do than sit around and link to awesome bands.

Either 'Babies' or 'Sorted For Es And Whizz', by Pulp.

And of course Friday I'm In Love by the Cure.

Another one that I sing for DAYS on end (and will now as I've just thought of it again): 'Smile' by the Supernaturals!

"You gotta smile..."

Nice....I'm planning on getting the Against Me lightning bolt on the top of my arm when I get my student loan in January, despite the fact that there's probably thousands of people who already have it done.

X-ray Specs - Bondage up yours.

HA! I remember that from years ago! It was the crazy song that i had to show everyone because it was so pants but so good at the same time!

I don't know how something so bad can be so catchy, but if you listen to "Check the Penis" by "The Penis" a few times through, not only will you probably be in stitches that someone thought it sounded good, but you won't be able to get it out of your head either.

THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD Check the penis THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD Check the THUD penis THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD Check the penis THUD THUD THUD THUD - Kiss the penis.

x-ray specs - "oh bondage up yours"

Quote from: Shaft
Some stuff similar to what I'm about to say

Hahaha.... yeahhh. That song was hilarious.

We're reaching back a while in my music taste... but these all apply I believe.
  • "Waltz #2" - Elliot Smith
  • "Miracle Drug" and "The Town Halo" - AC Newman (which is problematic because I don't know the lyrics)
  • "Sexx Laws" - Beck
  • "Sheep Go To Heaven" - Cake
  • Junior Senior. All of it. In fact, the only reason I consider this good is because it is so catchy.
  • Less Than Jake (ditto)
  • Millencolin (most of it anyway)
  • "Never Had to Knock on Wood" - Mighty Mighty Bosstones (that oughta get me some flack)
  • "Mood 4 U" - Reggie and the Full Effect
  • "Circles" - Soul Coughing
  • "Super Bon Bon" - Soul Coughing (yay for pseudo-techno - actually, the Propeller Heads' cover is catchier)
  • "Talking Heads" ... COME ON
  • [/list:u]
And musicals... well, a few anyway.
    • "All For the Best" - Godspell
    • "What Is This Feeling?" and "Popular" - Wicked
    • "What's This" - The Nightmare Before Christmas
    • "Rent", "La Vie Boheme" and "Out Tonight" - Rent
    • [/list:u]

oo bluecoatkarma those are some great ones... miracle drug and the town halo are two of my favourite ac newman songs and of course get caught in my head all the time. on the table is catchy too. and yea "the impression that i get" by mighty mighty bosstones used to always stick in my head. great song. and YES less than jake. great american sharpshooter, johnny quest thinks we're sellouts, just like frank... gah every song!

as for musicals, my god are "popular" and "what is this feeling" catchy! eee and so good. also that song from rogers and hammerstein's cinderella that the sisters sing... about how much they hate her... like "she's a flimsy little bubble, with a flimsy sort of charm, and with very little trouble i could break her little arm!" or something. so sing-able. rocky horror has some great catchy music too. i'm just a sweet transvestite...

The Internet is for Porn from Avenue Q gets stuck in my head at the most inappropriate times

My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors - Moxy Früvous
Rocketman - Red Elvises
Meet James Ensor - They Might Be Giants
Step into My Office Baby - Belle & Sebastian
One Bedroom Apartment - Clann Zu (this doesn't seem like a 'catchy' song but it gets stuck in my head all the time anyway)
Italian Leather Sofa - Cake
Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen - Janis Siegel (this is from the Swing Kids soundtrack, but the song itself has been around since the 30s)

Do you know what its like to have 99 red balloons stuck in your head for two weeks,  it wasn't even the English portion.  Got stuck in my head so I consider it catchy, but it's a song that one uses to force someone to suicide.

"Closer" Nine Inch Nails (that one has been stuck in my head since 94, don't know if "catchy" is the word for it, though)

someone said "idioteque" from Radiohead already, right? There's a song by them called "How Can You Be Sure?" that I also find extremely catchy.

many songs from R.E.M.

"Country House" Blur. Actually, many songs from Blur.

"Anthem for a 17 year old girl" Broken Social Scene (The chorus sticks with me long after I've stopped listening to it. Don't know why. I'm not a 17-year old girl)

Anyway, there are a lot of others, I just thought of those.

For some reason, whenever I listened to "Svefn-g-englar" by Sigur Rós, i'd have the "tju tju" chant-moan-whatever-it-is stuck in my head for the rest of the day. I'm cured now, after listening to it about 7 billion times.

haha whoa that sort of thing always happens to me! multiple songs enter my head and come together like a remix. somtimes i'll have the beat of one song and the words of another, or just various bits forming one song. it's kinda fun. i've always wanted some sort of remixing program so i could take them out of my head and make them real.

i get all sorts of stuff by the moldy peachs stuck in my head.  and alex, YEAH, i have wanted to learn some basic DJ remixing skills for that exact reason.  well that and so i could get recordings of various animals mating calls to mix at high speeds to shatter club peoples and ravers minds.

love&molotov suggestion of the aquabats reminded me of the jabberjaw cover that was on cartoon network by pain.

and i get gin and juice by dr. dre stuck in my head, and it's legion of covers.
