--- Quote from: anahata on 20 Aug 2015, 03:36 ---I thought about that Faye face, and I looked again, and I'm not sure it's all that disturbing.
I mean, that is one possible interpretation, but another is that she has found a job that is a perfect match for her skills, and she's simply really enjoying doing something that she is good at and that not everybody else could do, not only for the required skills but also because she doesn't apparently have a problem with the context.
And after all, she is doing repairs, not damage, like an army surgeon.
--- End quote ---
Yeah, I think it's that. I really hope it's that.
Also, for all the arachnophobes: This is how I got over mine. Peacock spiders. Tiny (half a centimetre), completely harmless spiders from Australia (yeah, I know), but all you need to know is in the name of a subspecies: Sparklemuffin. No, really! Those are miniature, colourful jumping spiders who dance and wiggle their butts if they want to mate.

osaka:
On the protective gear thing, Faye has been shown doing metalwork without any amount of protective gear worth noting. I just chalk that up to artistic preferences and not care too much.
chaospersonified:
The sparklemuffin spider has me seriously conflicted.
I laughed in (low-level) terror. I did not know that was a thing.
ReindeerFlotilla:
I don't think Faye has ever been shown welding with an appropriate mask and apron. Having known welders and seen their slag-burned hands and arms, this is consistent with the real world. Her failing to use proper eye wear when doing griding is also consistent with such. It's still a bad idea.
I know way too many people who only learned that proper safety equipment is a good idea after being injured in a manner safety equipment would have prevented. Very few weren't trained in the use of said equipment. In my misspent youth, I made the same stupid choices.
Artistic choice or not, it's still a fairly bad idea to grind without goggles.
