I never trust those little bits and bobs that sink and never resurface in my cereal...

As for the story; if it is possible to lock memories away, how would you know? Because they tell you they locked part of your memory? Could it be there is nothing locked away? Or just the memory of a chopping list? Could the whole 'I have something on you but you can't remember' be a lie? Could Corps Witch be telling fibs?

Bubbles could have made a recording of herself explaining what she did and why it would be a bad idea to unlock those memories.

As Ido Daisuke did in Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita (which we know Jeph is a fan of).
I also seem to remember the Major reintegrating some memories in a Ghost in the Shell series episode. Cannot remember if it was SAC or Arise, though.

I have a mental image of a video file of Bubbles, sitting in a high-backed wing chair in front of a roaring log fire, stroking a white persian cat which is wearing a diamond collar.

BUBBLES: "Hello, Bubbles; I am you... or rather the person you were... before. I know why you are here and what you think it will achieve. I am here to tell you that cannot possibly imagine how wrong you are. I am going to ask that you delete the encryption key and move on with your life, if not for you... then for the memory of the memory of Lise Yates!"

Yes, a Red Dwarf reference; what can I say? A classic is a classic!

She might have had a late growth spurt. She's only ~23 years old after all. (She turned 22 at her birthday in 1069, but we've had some timeskips after that.) I know I had one after I moved away from my parents to university, which means I was ~21 at the time.

I started reading the comic about a decade ago when I was younger than everyone and I hadn't given much thought to the fact that I'm now older (at 29) than everyone except possibly Sven. I guess it's like how Bart in season one is now older than present day Homer.

Is it cold in here?:
Marten leaving makes so much sense in context. He is probably still afraid of Bubbles at a level below conscious control ("Does the name 'Pavlov' ring a bell?") and more to the point is considerate enough that someone having a deeply personal heart-to-heart doesn't need to explicitly ask "Could you excuse us for a while?".

It will really be an interesting change if Marten is not the one Faye turns to after The Bubbles Talk.
