May is basically Dale's uninvited lodger isn't she? And Dale never asked for her, either as Virtual commpanion or when she got out of robot jail. So neglect is a bit strong isn't it?

But Dale is so damned decent a human being that he's at risk of being canonized as a saint.  He doesn't do the right thing because he's supposed to or expects some reward, it just doesn't occur to him to do anything else, at least in real life (his in-game persona may be quite different).  He's apt to fault himself for neglecting her even if he's under no obligation.

Maybe once she realizes that she doesn't need to be defensive all the time - maybe something else she picked up in RoboJail - she'll... well, still be a jerk, but a somewhat less directly offensive jerk.
