WCDT Strips 3581 to 3585 (2nd to 6th October 2017)
JimC:
*In season* non exotic vegetables are a helpful way to eat cheaply. But perhaps best of all is an evening job at a restaurant or takeaway, since you can guarantee one decent meal a day plus some more income. Not sure |I can see Faye in the Pizza girl outfit though. Now I've suggested it, maybe one of you fan art types would like to draw Bubbles as Pizza girl?
themacnut:
Local fruits and vegetables may be a good way to each cheaply, but Ramen and string cheese is cheaper still. As Faye may well discover if she actually tries Dora's purported "budget diet" and discovers the blatant lie she told (though I suspect Faye's already suspicious, if her expression in the last panel is any indication).

You're joking, surely, processed food is never a cheap way to live. Over here a 1.5kg packet of flour and a 100g packet of ramen cost about the same, but the flour can be made into a damper or something and give you twenty times the amount of food value...
HeavyP:
Two things:
1) Is it just me, or has Faye appeared thinner in the last few strips? Not sure if it's intentional per the storyline or just a slight shift in art style.
2) Eating cheap is fairly easy, it just takes willpower.
- Bulk dried goods (beans, rice, and noodles) will make up the majority of your diet; there's a reason they're a staple for most of the world. Don't buy a 1lb sack of rice, buy a 10lb sack of rice - bulk savings are real. Learn to cook them, learn to use spices.
- Store brand EVERYTHING.
- Family sized canned vegetables are *cheap*, and really aren't that much different from fresh in terms of nutritional value (spices will cover up that metallic taste)
- Buy uncooked whole chickens. Pound for pound they're the cheapest meat you can buy, and can be prepared to provide meat, hearty stocks, and fat.
- A multivitamin (again, store brand, because you're generally paying extra just for a name when you buy name brand) fills in the gaps.
- Basically just buy the least processed form of food you can in the largest quantity available and learn to cook.

Good advise, but the last piece can be very difficult for an entrepreneur trying to get a small business off the ground. That image of a couch, cot, or recliner chair in the shop isn't innaccurate, and Union Robotics is very much at that point in its development where "grabbing a slider" (a greasy hamburger that kind of slithers down your throat, for those non-USAians not familiar with the term) passes for nutrition.
I think you are correct - Jeph is drawing Faye thinner. Props for being the first to publicly call where this arc is bending.
