IIRC, they first met way back when Dora and Marten were in a relationship. I got the impression that Veronica doesn't like Faye very much; I think that she knows that she's a woman with a sack-full of issues and really thinks that they aren't things she wants in Marten's life.

My archive-fu is not great, but my recollection is that Veronica likes Faye just fine. Just not as a romantic match for Marten.
Wow, I actually found the comic I had in mind. A minor miracle.
