badbum61:
Willow: the Kevin Bacon of QCverse.
mikmaxs:
I kinda feel like this is also one of those 'characters in stories make bad assumptions to fuel drama because nobody communicated properly' things. It's a pretty important detail that Willow asked if it was alright to come along and reiterated that she'd leave if he wasn't cool with hanging out. Like, she didn't just start following him around. (And also, Willow never actually said to Claire that she and Marten were now friends - from her perspective, they're just hanging out.)
BenRG:
This may be me but I've honestly got the feeling that this is a very self-referential and meta storyline. Jeph seems to be consciously mocking Marten's passive nature (random person comes along, says that they are his friend and he says 'okay'). He also is pointing and laughing about how improbable are the plot contrivances he's used to make Willow a member of the regular cast.
Also, yes, one of the reasons why Marten is like this is because he really is bad at making excuses... or any other method for extracting himself from unwelcome social contacts other than by shrugging passively and saying: "Okay!"
DaiJB:
"...you're just like this."
"Like what?"
 I love the way Willow is honestly puzzled by Claire's response. This is simply normal to her.
"Like a combination of motivational trainer, Pollyanna, plus a touch of Good Samaritan?"

--- Quote from: sitnspin on 27 Mar 2022, 21:42 ---Nothing about her words or expression says "jealousy" to me. She's not being accusatory, she's pointing out legit security concerns. As a woman, especially as a trans woman, being cautious of who you let into your life is a survival skill.

Except consider the milieu. This is a webcomic set in a somewhat eclectic college town, but where the bulk of the characters are young just-post-college-age characters. These kinds of encounters happen at that age.
Heck, I gained a pack of friends and a future lover and roommate based on a single chance conversation with them on a subway train, and Northampton is LIKE this -- in a double irony, I live about three minutes walk from that "Panda House" intersection Jeph often uses as a backdrop ... that being Armory Street going into Pleasant Street, where there used to be a good Chinese Restaurant named "Panda Gardens," altogether too long ago.
