--- Quote from: Elder Sign on 11 Aug 2022, 21:49 ---I wonder if this Cubetown is truly free-floating off the Nova Scotian coast, or if it subsumed Sable Island or something when it was manifested by its community of AIs.
--- Quote from: John Allenson on 11 Aug 2022, 09:11 ---The UK is still trying to get rid of Boris Johnson who is the closer to Trump than any Canadian political figure.

If we have a Trump equivalent here in Canada, it's either Maxime Bernier or Doug Ford.

So, the aforementioned former PM Stephen Harper wasn't as Trump-esque as those tongue-in-cheek videos of Canadians mocking Americans who said they'd 'just move to Canada if Trump won' made him out to be back before the 2016 US election?
[I'm not super up on Canadian politics. No idea if Harper was friends with Epstein or helped incite an insurrection.]
BTW, found this gif-set of South Park criticizing Harper and warning against Trump while trying to find the actual video.
EDIT: Ugggggghhhhhhh. I'm finding old articles, but I'm not finding the video. Wish I could remember which comedy site it was on. They focused on the same thing a number of the articles did, that Canada had made immigration more difficult.

I haven't seen that episode, but that Gifset looks like it's using Canada as a proxy to mock the election of Trump, more than anything. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's supposed to represent any actual Canadian leader.
Like don't get me wrong; Stephen Harper sucks for a variety of reasons, but he's nowhere near Trump's level. Trump reportedly idolizes Hitler behind closed doors, and is likely to lead the US into a civil war, to say nothing of the alarming reports that top secret information about America's nuclear arsenal may be among the documents that he stole from the White House when he left office, which the FBI were looking for in his Florida home the other day. I honestly can't think of any Canadian leader that comes close to that.

Doug Ford was the first person that came to mind, yeah. I've referred to him as a Trump wannabe a bunch of times... though of course, he's the Ontario Premier, rather than the Prime Minister. (Ugh, I can't believe he got re-elected and we have to endure four more years of him; uuuughhh... I'm still mad at him, and will never stop being mad at him, for striking down the proposed LGBT-friendly sex ed curriculum and rolling back social progress about 30 years)

That episode was 100% mocking the election of Trump. I seem to recall that the writers of South Park did an interview shortly after that episode where they mentioned the intent was to put Trump in charge of Canada and get him killed by the end of the episode so that they would never have to show Trump again.

At the time, we knew he was bad. I'm not sure if anyone fully grokked just how bad he was save those close to him. Likely prompting the now plainly inaccurate comparison.
I also agree with cesium123's conviction in that being a proxy criticism of the Trump election. As I understand it[1], most everything they did that outright criticized him was done by proxy (usually through Cartman).
[1] I don't follow South Park, haven't really got the time and I don't always agree with the message. Wisecrack does have some pretty good breakdowns though. Especially when they dissect how South Park explains why many trumpsters doubled down on their support.
