I'm trying to look up information on The Books, I want to hear some of their music before I buy it. But the fact that their name is "the books" is making this alot harder. And the description, "doesnt sound like anything else you've heard" isn't much help either. Does anyone know if they have a main website or something?

You can go to their distributors website Tomlab and they have a few mp3's under their profile plus you can discover their making a new album to come out which will be delicious and full of wonder. Actually I can't say that because I'm having a disagreement with my Books records at the moment.

From listening to those songs, i think they'd be a 'repeat listen till i get into them' kinda band for me. I really like 'enjoy your worries' though.

yeah, the books rule.  it's like, acoustic music, set to a bed of everyday samples used unlike i've ever heard them used.  they're definitely an 'intense listening' type group.  very deep.

Both Thought For Food and Lemon of Pink quietly made their way onto my top ten albums of the year for their respective years. It wasn't like I really listened to these albums a lot or was utterly amazed by them a lot, either. They were just quietly spectacular albums that, without me realizing it, were my favorite albums of the year.

I suggest everyone take a listen to them.

I was at a music store the other day and I listened to the new album...
It was a toss up but I decided to buy Architecture in Helsinki instead.
I'm with Tinjessla I think in saying that this band would take me a little bit of time to get into...
The new album sounds a little different to that link that was given however, as there were actually vocals on the tracks I was listening to.
Maybe I'll go back to the store and have another listen sometime.
I think this was my point though, why don't you try before you buy? Nice record stores let you do choice things like that.

I have all three Books albums, and they are all the shit.

The music is aleotoric, which means they take small bits of other sounds to make up their own music. There's definite songs in all of it. Check out Lost and Safe for the most traditional stuff yet, but even it has the built songs, if you dig it, Lemon of Pink is probably their best.

I have Lost and Safe.  It's okay.  It's all very interesting but it doesn't grab me.  It doesn't infect me.  It stimulates me I guess, but only when I'm sleepy and about halfway into an REM cycle.  If I listen to them while sleeping, I have like. . .crazy dreams.  While awake, though, they bore me somewhat.

Who the fuck judges music by whether or not it's 'witty'? Even ignoring the fact that it is pretty complex, that's also a seriously retarded way to judge anything.

I'm amazed that you don't like The Books. You seriously couldn't fucking script it, as it's just the kind of music you normally really enjoy. I was on the edge of my seat trying to guess what you'd think of them, but luckily you told us. Twice. I especially enjoyed the second time you told us you don't like them, as it had all essential information of the first time round, but came free with added inane comments.

That's because I hate you, and the band you like. I also like arguing. Also, I normally expect sample-derived/found sound music to use said samples in a way I would best describe as 'witty'. (for example, the way most EBM bands use samples)

Also, your ears need cleaning out, because it sounds shite.

Frontline Assembly arguably has some of the best sampling I've heard.  Bill Leeb is just really uncannily good at that sort of shit.

Hell yes. Wumpscut is rather unbeatable as far as the old film quotes go though. Also, I'm a big fan of Neuroticfish's sampling. He doesn't do it much, compared to some, but when he does it's very good. For example, the use of the modem noise in the intro to 'The Bomb', which is basically just divine inspiration.

I'd personally go for 'Dried Blood of Gomorrha' as an intro. It's a compilation of two EP's, both completely remixed, and contains great versions of most of the best classic :wumpscut: tracks (Black Death, Funeral Diner, Soylent Green etc.).
