OMG THRED REVIVEL OMGZ!

Jailbreak -by- Small Brown Bike

Overall, I enjoyed it, but there were a few things I have to pick with the actual song. This may be the recording, but the drums have no real power. As a percussionist myself, it kind of hurt to hear such weakly-played drums, especially when played with the particularly strong riff. In the beginning, the tempo seemed kind of awkward, but it comes together later on, especially when the lead singer comes in and the interplay really begins. Though the lead singer had no range or variety in his voice, this is punk. I may be expecting too much. ;D

Good song. I'd give it a 8/10, as most of my complaints are nit-picks.

And now...

A cover of Weezer's "Only in Dreams" by one of my favorite bands, Mock Orange.

La Creme:

They made the beat a little more interesting, which was nice. The singer wasn't that good.. at all. Sorry. The guitar held pretty faithful to Weezer. Around 3:20 they do the build-up/bridge thing but they kinda ruin it by not coming down. Which pissed me off. But his little "only in dreams" yell after that was very Rivers.
Decent song, and the cover stayed pretty faithful, if boring, so...: 6/10

I posted them on another board, so I back up my love for them here:

Helloweeeen! Great fast semi-classical intro, then breaking into the kind of verse/chorus vocals that they helped make cliche. Cool lyrics and great singing. "He's been banned in twenty countries, Though he does it for money..." and what a goddamn solo! 9/10

Heh, the best thing about Mock Orange is that they have a new sound and lead singer (who was already in the band, since all of the band members are childhood friends). Now, they do this really crazy mix of Pavement/Built to Spill/Modest Mouse. Here's an example of their new sound just for fun.

Now for the review.

Orange Goblin - Magic Carpet

I really, really enjoyed this song. The beginning  was great, where it had that really nice funky bass, but got better after the seamless transition into high-energy hard rock with the nimbly-played riffs, the simple yet effective drumming, and the lead singer's harsh snarl. I actually feel like listening to it again.

10/10

How about some nice experimental/hard-rock instrumental music from the more-than-excellent RPG Shadow Hearts: Covenant?

Music from games, usually means annoying and repeatative with usually little to none lyrical talent.

However, this one surprised me it was not repeatative at all. It was very short, so that may be the reason. I liked the soft stuff, and the harder stuff. The instrumentals were very good. Also, the touch of the lady singing softly in an eery sort of way just fit into it. It was rather short, but that is a good thing. As I could see it getting to be the same thing over and over again very fast.

I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

What you have to endure with muahaha.
Sorry I can't figure out how to use one of those MP3 sites.
