La Creme:
Captain Beefheart is the shit. I keep trying to find a copy of "Boogalize You"... what CD is it on?

Speaking of Beefheart, Tom Waits shoulda done much more blues in his early days. But it was all piano-sing jazz and angry jives like "Wistlin' Past The Graveyard" (which is possibly my favorite early Waits tune).

Speaking of Tom Waits, I just started up this lil' ditty:
Eyeball Kid
by Tom Waits

sp2:
Mmmm...Tom Waits.

a pack of wolves:
I fully agree with the mmming over Mr Waits, I think 'Jesus Gonna Be Here' proves he could sing some amazing blues. And there's a couple of Who tracks on 'My Generation' which are pretty good blues too.

'I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby' is the first track on 'The Spotlight Kid' and it is indeed an amazing song. If you can't lay your hands on it then let me know as I could put it up on yousendit.com for you if you want, or in my soulseek folders if you have that.

KharBevNor:
...I really can't see how you can call Skyclad cheesy if you're salivating all over all that kitsch pop crap.

That's just a general point, I formulated it before you posted, pack.

a pack of wolves:
Hey, even if it had been directed at me I wouldn't mind, it's a perfectly legitimate question. And here's my answer. I'm not averse to things being cheesy. I like Manowar. Hell, I like Youth of Today! But the cheesiness has to work in the benefit of the song. In the case of Manowar it's all part of that gleeful, ridiculous, fist-punching-the-air metal happiness. If it wasn't cheesy it wouldn't be nearly so much fun. With Youth of Today it adds to the naive youthful feel of the music. If they were coming across like Orchid they wouldn't be as good. But with Skyclad I didn't get any effects like that, it detracted from the impact of the social situation he was singing about without adding anything. So The Pipettes could be described as cheesy, but they stick a big smile on my face when Skyclad don't.
