Tiger is COOL

(1/4) > >>

Matteh99:
I just got tiger and it's pretty darn cool.

I just used automator to go through the QC content and download all of the comics.  I am on dialup at home so it takes a long time go look at the old QC comics so I wanted them all on disk.  So I used automator to download all of them at work.  :)

Spot light works just as well as advertized.

Dashboard is cool.

Those are the only features I have played with..

nickyandthefuture:
I installed it.  I like it quite a lot; the interface seems a lot faster, and Spotlight works really well.  I can see it helping me out a lot.  I have a lot of research papers stored as PDFs on here, but they're not organized at all.  When I want to find one, instead of looking through them all one by one, I can type something like "roskos siebert biomedical" and pretty much instantly find Siebert and Roskos' paper "All-optoelectronic continuous wave THz imaging for biomedical applications", which otherwise is unhelpfully named "m22110.pdf".  Nice.

Dashboard is interesting, but there isn't anything there that I can see using constantly.  I like having quick access to a version of stickies that disappears when I want it to, though, and the translator is an interesting idea.

There are some sucky things so far:
1.  My Quicktime 6 pro key doesn't work with Quicktime 7, so I can't do fullscreen playback unless I pay Apple another $30.  QT Pro was useful when I was recording all of my vinyl records onto my computer and compressing tomography data as movie files, but I don't really get enough use out of the pro features to justify giving them more money.  Why is full screen a "pro" feature anyway?  At least on the Mac version, it seems stupid.

2. The Cisco VPN client breaks with Tiger.  This means I can't run Matlab from home until they fix it.  Shit.

Mnementh:
Oh, this is good to know (Cisco VPN borkedness), I won't install Tiger until they do, otherwise I won't be able to log into work from home.

Coincidentally, I work for The MathWorks.

MilkmanDan:
The new mail buttons got the shit kicked out of them by a legion of Uglystick wielding thugs. And Isync no longer works with my Dad's phone. Other than that, it seems nice.
If you want to learn about the slightly less-visible changes, this review has absolutly EVERTHING.

Phrozen:
I have a really hard time with this concept coming from a windows background.

Apple wants me to pay how much for a Service Pack?
