How do others respond to your musical taste?
Tartar Martyr:
Most of my friends enjoy my music for the most part. We all like the same base group of classic rock and the upper crust of popular indie/pop/alt rock from the past few years (Shins, Radiohead, Wilco). But where my tastes include more of the classic "indie" type bands (Pavement, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Pixies), theirs usually stick to the present or trace back a more classic rock path (stones, beatles, hendrix).
Where I lose all of them is when I start listening to hip-hop. Every few weeks I will get in a mood where all I want to listen to is A Tribe Called Quest or Jurassic 5, or the Roots. None of my friends like hip hop.

My friend said it best when he commented "Some of the stuff you listen to is cool, but alot of it is just wierd."
He doesn't have bad taste, but, to paraphrase muffy, he likes the libertines. (I think I'm going to start useing that phrase to describe people who have bad taste in indie music.)

i like the libertines :(

they don't, or alternatively calls it weird. I know a guy, we get along and everything, but if the convo is about music then it's pretty much a shit-throwing contest. Mainly because he's an r'n'b boy(he likes Usher for gods sake, though curiously enough he does admit the lyrics are crap) while I am not....quite the opposite. I pretty much keep my tastes to myself, having lost any hope for their(everyone I know basically) recovery from chronic bad taste in music. I have great difficulty taking people who listen to 50 Cent and Usher seriously, but to each his own, just don't force to listen to that crap.
The only person who shares my taste a wee bit is my little brother, and guess who indoctrinated him...I will give you a hint: it wasn't Satan ;)
all above is immensely snobbish and so it was intended...ha
Sophi:
I always get the feeling that most people here would think my musical taste was atrocious. For instance, right now? I just played Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani like five times in a row. I have not broken down and listened to *nsync in a while (except for the time when I recited the lyrics to Pop to my friend over im from memory), but I assure you that for a while, it was a regular occurence. My playlist contains the following: Destiny's Child. Jay-Z. George Michael. Britney Spears. Dolly Parton. I also listen to a lot of stuff that I'm not going to hide when people come over, but that's probably not cool either - Ben Folds, Jason Mraz, stuff like that. I'm also a huge musical theatre fan, so a good part of my music collection is made up of cast recording - pretty dorky. I don't make any apologies, though. If someone wants to hate me because I like The Dixie Chicks, whatever! There's probably someone out there who wants to hate me because I like The Clash. I have friends who hate both aspects of my musical taste, but whatever. I'm not saying that I'm totally awesome for listening to a lot of what I listen to, because I know that a lot of it is crap and a lot of it is totally dorky, but I do have pretty good musical taste for the most part, if I do say so myself, so I think it evens out. I just think it's dumb when people try to judge you by your musical taste, and tell you that you're not cool enough or something. There's really no winning, either your taste is too mainstream, or you're too elitist, or you're too pretentious, or you're a poser, and so on and so forth.
Sorry I got sort of ranty there. It's something that I'm touchy about.
Trollstormur:
Most people don't know what the hell I'm talking about and they say "what, like slipknot?"
