How do others respond to your musical taste?

That about sums it up. I'm banned from playing certain CDs in the presence of certain people.

I'd get High Fidelity style shopkeepers saying I have awesome taste (I loved this when I was like 12 cos I felt I was so grown up) and friends saying "we're not listening to that". Read into that how you with, though nowadays I have more friends with similar tastes.

My musical taste is kind of wierd. My 2 favorite bands are Tool and A Perfect Circle. I say this, and everyone thinks I like Staind and Sevendust and other horrible shit like that.
But other than that I listen to a lot of Post Rock and more obscure stuff, like Dredg, The Mars Volta, Godspeed, Mogwai, Mum, Do Make Say Think, Explosions in the Sky, Murder by Death, etc.
I have them listen to the other stuff and they alwaays say 'this doesn't seem like something you'd like' because it's unlike Tool and APC.

I've been fortunate in life to either surround myself with people with good or similar taste. I've always been the one people go to for music recommendations. It all started with kermit - where you had to go search for songs online and upload your own to get them . . . it became a fantastical hobby and now all I do is look for obscure stuff that sounds great.
