Their basses are alright, but only the really expensive ones, like the Geddy Lee sig.(he rules).

Don't get me started on thier guitars.

I have one of their bass amps, not by my own choosing, and it's quality is total shit(not a fluke)

Any Questions?

I'm not sure you can write off one of the most highly regarded guitar and amp manufacturers just like that. I think, with most things, you get the quality you pay for. I have a US Deluxe Telecaster, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. As in, it's virtually perfect.

I went Gibson guitar and Marshall Amp. Both break all the time.

Wires are forever coming loose, forcing me to get out the old solderer.

Actually my Marshall amp just broke about a month ago, but I think that was because my sister's boyfriend wasn't turning it on and off properly. The footswitch stopped working a while before, so I opened it up to see if anything was loose, couldn't see anything, put it back together again, and it worked.

Gibsons are very nice. . though very expensive.

Marshall amps I haven't had much experience with.

I play on a BC Rich Guitar and a Fender Amp and I'm incredibly happy with both.

That's what is wrong with mine at the moment. Kind off. It won't switch between clean and heavy.

Marshall footswitches are well known for being shite. The amps themselves are pretty reliable, though, if you treat them well.

i played a fender bass and found the strings too high off the fretboard to be played easily...a high action i think?
anyways i have my ibanez that i rarely play these days, something about moving away from punk and realizing i dont have any need to do it myself.

Well that's really the style of guitar they are. I don't know so much about basses, but on guitars, if you want to play super-fast stuff, it will be easier on say an Ibanez than on a Fender, but if you want a guitar that feels good for playing blues or rock, then I'd rather have a Fender. Horses for courses, etc.

I agree with all the Fender haters. Sorry. I guess it's my love of metal that makes me hate high action strings. That, and the fact that music stores around here seem to absolutely fetishize Fender, to the point where they barely bother to stock any other brands.

You guys know that you can adjust the action on the guitar fairly easily don't you?

Fenders have always treated me great.  Gibsons are expensive and just unreasonable when you consider how poor their quality control is.  Ibanez makes some nice stuff, and I like play with Fernandes guitars that have the sustainer pick ups in stores, but Fenders are what I own.  American Tele, Korean Strat, currently saving for a nice vintage Jazzmaster.  I like Fender a lot.

I'm currently deciding between getting a Les Paul Studio and a Jazzmaster. I already have a Tele so I was leaning more towards the Les Paul, but Jazzmasters are crazy guitars, really unlike anything else I've ever played.

Frankly, I just love semi-hollowbody guitars and Fender (according to their webpage) doesn't make them, instead making their highly-overrated Strats, Squiers and Telecasters.

You have to pay over $1500 to get a good Marshall...their MG series is fucking horrible.

BC Rich guitars...meh. Again, you have to buy a high-end one to make it be worth it. They get most of their money from kids who see a pointy guitar in a store and go "OMG, MUST PURCHASE."

uhh. . Not really.

I don't know what you consider "high-end" but I have a Platinum Virgin (~ $400) and it plays like a dream.

Everything they make is pretty good, aside from the Bronze Series (two guitars) and the "packs" (amp, guitar, strap all in one)

If you want a crap brand, play a Squier. God those are horrible guitars. Good for starting on, and not much else, lol. I know a guy who bought one as a second guitar, and he never had such a letdown in his life.

Squier does indeed suck.  I had the priviledge of learning on a real Fender strat. . maybe that makes me kind of spoiled :)

^ Best guitar I've ever played was in a store yesterday. I grabbed this Fender Strat off the wall, and noticed it was a very high-end guitar. It had a locking nut/bridge, and a Floyd Rose, as well as amazing pickups and a wonderfully made fretboard. And, in the immortal words of some guy I forget the name of, "If my fingers had testicles, that guitar would've been painted white."

I'm very partial to Carvin Basses and Guitars. Great diversity in tone..

But Fender Basses are great if you invest in an American Standard..

Especially with a Pick, you can get this great, grinding wooden tone that's not possible out of other basses.

Dick Dale, who all hard rock, punk and heavy metal artists owe something to, forces all his bassists to play a Fender PBass through a Fender Amp with a pick. Using your fingers will get you kicked out of his band.

How are the strat or tele any more "overrated" than LPs?  Strats and Teles give unique tones that forged rock and roll in the days of yore.  LPs have their own set of unique tones, but at nearly half the price, half the weight and a much greater chance that I will not get a lemon with the frets hanging over the sides, crappy wiring, or glue hanging off in various places, I will take my American made Fender.  Gibson makes some nice stuff, but their quality control is shite.

Not trying to argue, they are both good brands, I am just not seeing/understanding the "Fender is crap compared to Gibson" argument.

I have a Epiphone bass and a Fender amp; personally I'm quite happy with both.  However part of this might have to do with the fact that I am simply increadably happy to be playing anything but the squier I learned on.  That thing was a piece of shit.

The bass I learned on was by no means good, a Peavey Milestone III. But it made me a much better player in the long run, as when I moved up to my current bass (OLP Stingray) I was able to play so much better after being used to playing on something I pretty much had to strangle the notes out of.

Strangely though, I still enjoy playing my Peavey with it's dirty old strings I never got around to changing. That dull, barely-any-sustain sound really appeals to me sometimes for some reason.
