jam bands make me happy
happybirthdaygelatin:
--- Quote from: Mnementh ---OAR is the frat boy jam band. They're pretty crappy, but rich frat boys (and other kids who think smoking pot and pretending to be deep is railing against the man) listen to them and think it makes them hippies.
--- End quote ---
Ah ha. A quick search of the inertnets reveal the song that grates on my nerves is "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker."
Hurk.
"O.A.R. (aka Of a Revolution) converted from an Ohio State frat band to Billboard chartbuster and headliner at major venues across America."
Also learned is a band I like, Medeski Martin & Wood, is lumped in with jam bands on yahoo music.
boeuf:
A neatish 'jam band' is submission hold.
Though I wouldn't really call them a 'jam band' what they do is super neat.
Their latest ceedee 'what holds back the elephant' has an example of what they do.
They improvise!!!
Which I guess technically jamming, but they just start playing a song and watch each other intently and feel it all...and there is lyrics!
In the song the pretty lady singer thing just sings out a list of items found in a time capsule somewhere in BC I think from like 1994.
Its pretty rad.
a pack of wolves:
Have you heard The Din? It's basically Submission Hold without Jen doing improvised music, they opened up when I saw them in Amsterdam a few years back. But from what I can tell it's pretty different from what these kinds of bands are doing.
Oh yeah, and Pool Cleaner are worth keeping an eye out for as well. They're also improvised and feature Submission Hold's former flute player. She does some great stuff looping her flute, the whole band create some really powerful atmospheres. It's a shame she's not on that last Submission Hold record.
Signum_Tenebrae:
Although I'm not normally into "jam bands" I do have a soft spot in my heart for the Allman Brothers since it was practically the only thing I heard growing up thanks to my ABB fanatic dad.
