Drowning Pools - Let the Bodies Hit the Floor

System of a Down - Aerials

Nine Inch Nails - Perfect Drug

Linkin Park - Session

Crazy Town - Toxic

Well, none of those are Metal for a start.

Deftones, Drowning Pool, SOAD, Linkin Park, Crazy Town (on that track anyway) are all Nu Metal.

'Rock'

That's what pretty much all my music is categorised as.

Oh, and the Deftones aren't what I would call nu-metal, at all

And surely, if they are Nu Metal, then they are Metal

Call them Alt-Rock then, just dont call them Metal.

Hey, just because it's a name, doesn't mean it's right. Means "New Urban Metal" according to Mr. Davis of Korn (or was reported as such) and it's just bastardised Alt Rock with a few other none Metal things thrown in.

Categorizing em all under numetal? But theyre very different from eachother, feels boring to just name it numetal, altmetal or altrock.

Nu Metal is ....wide ranging...I guess. Some draws from Rock, some from Pop, some from Industrial, some from Rap, etc. Certainly not Alt. Metal as they're just not Metal.

If you want to name them something fancy, upto you.

If your metal sounds like ROH ROH ROH it's probably death metal.

If it sounds like ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH HISSSSSSSSSSS it's probably black metal.

If it sounds like UUUUUUUUNICOOOOOOORNS AND DRAAAAAAAAGONS it's probably power metal.

Yes, Maiden and Priest are are definatly Metal. And of course Black Sabbath. Metal is a big, big thing, generally with lots of bits people dont like.

It goes from the mention Black Sabbath to raw as hell Black Metal bands that record in basement of a burnt down churt at the lowest possible quality. To even stranger things.

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were part of the "New wave of british heavy metal."

I suggest if you're really interested in learning about different types of metal and how they progressed and evolved from other styles of music check out the metal section at www.anus.com

Yeah, nu metal or alt. rock for most of them, though if you wanna get technical you can put NIN as 'Industrial rock' or 'Industrialised rock' and you can make up any sort of genre for System of a Down, if you feel like it. 'Alt. Hard Folk Rock' or something like that.

Man, I love genres. *heads off to listen to some Blackened Celtic Battle Metal*

I never got why SOAD were always classified as nu-metal. Where's the DJ? I don't see one. Do they sound like Korn? No.

Whatever they are, they're a pretty cool band.

"Alt Rock + few other things" or whatever. Thought yes, not complete Nu Metal. If you like it and genres dont matter to you, it doesn't matter.

Aren't Green Carnation Tchort's latest project? I keep meaning to check them out, as I am a big fan of Emperor, Satyricon, Carpathian Forest and Blood Red Throne. But I have heard they are nu-metally and poo.

Meh... it's weird, kinda fantasy-metalesque... Light of Day, Day of Darkness is sort of a trip through someones mind, i think... there's a bit right in the middle that just sucks ass and is really annoying (unless you're a north african Berber)... and it's like 60 minutes long, but it's pretty cool in concept

Edit: And yes, Khar (shit you're good with metal trivia), Carnation is Tchort's latest

Hmm. *checks up* Metal Archives has 'em down as 'Gothic / Neo-progressive metal' which sounds good, if a little vague. But then, metal archives thinks Nightingale is 'Melodic metal', so they do vary in quality.

I shall check them out sometime. If you want to pump up on metal trivia, btw, a) read a load of mags/zines (I have subscriptions to Terrorizer and Zero Tolerance, and am a regular buyer of Metal Hammer. MH is going the way of Kerrang! but the other two are ace). and b) http://www.metal-archives.com/.  info, discographies, lineups, etc. for practically every metal band ever.
