I was going to make a dedicated thread on Slaughter and the Dogs, but I thought that would be rather useless on an indie-oriented board. :o

http://punkandoi.free.fr/index.htm is a site with loads of mp3s for 50 great punk and Oi! bands. Check out:

Slaughter and the Dogs
The Adicts
Blitz
Sham 69
Cock Sparrer
Cockney Rejects
Stiff Little Fingers
The Damned

^ Some Great choices there. I would add (not sure if they're on that site):

The Anti-Nowhere League
The UK Subs
Plastique Bertrand

And some more modern American punk (pretty mainstream stuff I know):

Anti-Flag
Amen
Propaghandi
Misfits

also, in the vein of the last mention, The latest Orange Goblin album is pretty damn punk, in the misfits vein.

Also, I actually kinda like the Sex Pistols. And most of the other punk bands 'everyone knows about' like The Ramones and whatnot are also worth the checking out.

Have you heard Underground Network? It has to be one of the most irritating albums I've ever had the misfortune of listening to.

Indie Sucks, Hardline Sucks, Emo Sucks, You Suck is a classy song though.

I think the problem with AF is that whilst every so often they can find a song that's pretty damn cool ( the songs Underground Network springs to mind, as does 911 For Peace), most of the stuff they do is kinda..... crap.

Ah well. At least they're not Simple Plan....

I don't think that site has anything by Seven Seconds. It's a site of 50 bands, this one guy's "jukebox."

He was teasing? Oh well, then I'm glad I didn't go into asshole mode over that Sum 41 remark. :D

EDIT: Anti Nowhere League is great too. I have a few songs of theirs, "So What" and "We Are the League" are good. And, if anyone goes to punkrockers.com, check out TSOL. How I loves them.

Well, they should be. Ah, the good old days when Kevin Seconds was still straight edge and made punk rock that resembled a kick in the nuts...except in the good way.  Poor choice of life style, but great music. (please no one yell at me for not being straight edge, its a poor life style for ME).

PS Anti-Flag = awesome

UK Subs make me laugh, mainly because they tour nearly every week?! (It seems) and you can tell whenever they're playing because the 30+ year old punks come out of hiding with their 2 metre lip gagues and silly haircuts.

UK Subs rule...

Punk bands I love (coming from all branches of punk. Post-punk, pop punk, etc.

Swingin Utters, Leatherface, Mr. T Experience, Dillinger Four, Bad Religion, Op Ivy, Rancid,  Crass, Wire (old old old school punk), Trenchmouth (totally obscure), Against Me!, Discount, Circle Jerks, Moral Crux, Common Rider, Tiger Army, The Dicikies, The Vandals, (young) pioneers, Auntie Christ...

uh, lots.
Punk is my baby.

For my money, Dillinger Four are probably the best melodic punk band ever. And that cover of Sally McLennan (I'm sure that's spelt wrong, but neither 'This Shite Is Genius' nor 'Rum, Sodomy And The Lash' are to hand) even manages to top the original.

I've never had that much affection for 70s straight-up punk bands though, which explains why I rate them over most of the originators of the genre. Sham 69, X-Ray Spex, The Buzzcocks, The Ramones and The Misfits are some of the few I have time for, although I do respect a lot of them for how different what they were doing was to what had come before. Oh, and early Black Flag of course, back when Keith Morris was on vocals they were really more punk than hardcore in style.

Rancid got a little too mainstream for my tastes but the old stuff was good.

Pinkerton Thugs
Fugazi
The Virus
The UNseen
Devotchkas
Lower class Brats
Screeching weasel
Global threat
millencolin (fuck you i like em)
the real mckenzies
detuned and off-key

and i don't think they need be metioned, but they can't go unmentioned : Dropkick Murpheys

They could have done. It would have given the thread so much more class...

Now Millencolin on the other hand had some decent tunes. Patchy, certainly, but still capable of cranking out some good, fast, catchy punk when the mood took them. I might have to dig out a Punk-O-Rama in a minute, I'm getting all nostalgic. And if we're going to bring them up... Satanic Surfers anyone?

I dunno, 2 and 3 are pretty solid. I never bothered with any after that since most of the bands on them looked pretty bad, but those two... New Bomb Turks, Poison Idea, NOFX (I still reckon 'We Threw Gasoline...' is one of their finest moments), Bad Religion back when they were still good, Cramps, Red Aunts and a slew of bands that would probably get irritating over a whole album (Undeclinable Umbuscade for one) but sounded just peachy there. Okay, so you had to sit through the Voodoo Glow Skulls and a few other duds but there was some good stuff to be had on Epitaph back then. Not now unfortunately, although at least Anti has Tom Waits and The Locust.

Lower Class Brats rock as well...
and Millencolin are certainly awesome. Pennybridge Pioneers is a great album. I love Material Boy.

Yeah, I agree about the Punk O Ramas, they did broaden my horizons in the punk genre when I was first dabbling in it. 4 was really good, and 6 as well. It sort of started going down hill after 6 though.

Compilations are a godsend I find. I have so many of them, from epitaph, new red archives, lookout records etc etc. Thats why I know so many bands that I do know.

Because you buy a compilation if you recognize a couple bands, but then you listen to all the bands on it, starting liking a bunch more, than you find compilations with the new bands you discovered on that comp and it just keeps going and going.

Wow, I wanna write punk reviews! Reviewing metal, I only really have Roadrunner to bash. But oh, that is a task I will truly never tire of. Ever.

Anyway, so who likes Psychobilly?

...and yes, actually, that movie with the Klowns that kill was actually pretty bitching.

The problem with Epitaph is that they haven't signed a good band in god knows how long, and their old ones got terrible. And even at their best, Pennywise, Bad Religion and NOFX were patchy. I'll still stick up for their old stuff though.

God, don't get me started on the whole Tooth & Nail/Solid State pro-life christian bullshit. And as for Victory, well, they released One Life Crew. Nuff said. Why By The Grace of God were ever on that label I'll never understand, 'For The Love of Indie Rock' just doesn't fit on Victory at all.

For straight-up punk rocking these days, No Idea is pretty much peerless. Actually, they own most people with their back catalogue too. I mean, come on, motherfucking Radon. And I'm not even going to start on the hardcore stuff they've put out, otherwise I'll end up with a massive post just about the jaw-dropping masterwork that is 'Parasitic Skies'.

I sort of like Hellcat, well, from what Ive gathered from my Give Em the Boot 2 ceedee. That wasn't a bad album at all, lots of reggae/skaish stuff on it.

I love Tiger Army though, along with Necromantix, Id say they're considered rockabilly. I love their bass!

New Red Archives is(/was?) a pretty awesome label, lots of obscure bands that no ones heard of, though at least the compilation of that | have has Anti-Flag, UK subs, samiam...
I'd still listen to that ceedee constantly if it wasn't scratched to shit.

And you know who just released an album on the Epitaph subsidary, Hellcat? The Unseen! And the record sucks, too. I swear, that place is like a fucking black hole for punk bands. They show up, hit the event horizon, and all of a sudden, they have extremely large amounts of mass, and develop their own fields of gravity. In layman's terms, they SUCK.

Grr. I used to really like The Unseen too. :(
