Recommend me some good stuff =D
deborah:
i'll second the jawbreaker recommendation
also:
built to spill - perfect from now on
seam - are you driving me crazy
blanking at work. those are good though.
ForteBass:
with the Modest Mouse on your list I'd also go with Built To Spill, and Mission of Burma. As far as the Big-Band stuff goes, Inlander made every good reccomendation ever. Hopefully we can convince you to try some straight ahead, cool, fusion and latin styles of jazz.
Merkava:
--- Quote from: Coonstar ---Man I hope that this isn't too much of a newbie topic, because I don't know whether it's a regularly ok thing for users to kind of hog a topic all to their own. But anyway. I'd like to listen/check out new music, stuff that you'd think I'd probably like but are quite different from what I am used to.
Just for reference, here's my audioscrobbler --> http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/coonstar/
And this is my top 20 albums list (in no particular order)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
Pearl Jam - Ten
Stars - Set Yourself On Fire
The Futureheads - The Futureheads
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Morrissey - You are the Quarry
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
The Clash - London Callng
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
Garbage - Beautiful Garbage
The Shins - Chutes too Narrow
David Bowie - Hunky Dory
The New Pornographers - Electric Version
Please recommend me albums/artists that I would still most likely enjoy but are quite different, for I feel the need to expand my musical horizons. Also just for kicks, recommend me some classic big-band jazz stuff? =D

I love you. So much.
With your Modest Mouse love, check out Keep it Like a Secret/Perfect From Now On by Built to Spill and Surfer Rosa/Doolittle by The Pixies.
negative creep:
maybe kyuss? i don't know if everyone who likes QOTSA likes kyuss too, but i do.
deborah:
how about some XTC? that would be working backward from the futureheads
then again, my boyfriend and his best friend wholly acknowledge their dorkhood for loving the XTC so much.
