That's a nonsequitur and you know it. To understand what makes a band innovative or new or whatever, you need to know where they're coming from. Most music is just a simulacrum or a simulacrum of a simulacrum. So you should be at least familiar with the early stuff, even if you don't like it. I'm not saying it's better or worse. I'm saying that you should be familiar with it if you want to be knowledgeable about music.
And Tchaikovsky was a rock star. Dude brought cannons for the 1812 overture. Tell me that's not fucking metal right there.
