I guess that depends on your flavor of post-rock. Don't get me wrong, I definitely dig the album, but it's a beast to listen to. I usually play it ambiently.
I prefer Do Make Say Think or Explosions In The Sky. I guess because both bands seem to have more dynamics in a short period of time (6 minutes or so), whereas GY!BE stretches each piece way out.
Have you heard A Silver Mt. Zion? I think you'd probably like them.

i have indeed! gybe is a bit of a challenge sometimes, i used to feel like i wasn't quite getting it, as trite as that sounds, but one day i was listening to lift yr skinny fists and it just sort of made sense, hence my appreciation. incedentally, one of my favorite moments ever involving godspeed involved reading harry potter, and it timed perfectly with the climax of the action and song. disconcerting, really.
p.s.- yo la tengo's prisoners of love is a great intro to indie, it ranges all over the place. i am a fan.

i had a simlar moment with GY!BE. my friend has always been a big fan, so i gave em a listen. i remember being unimpressed and kind of bored. one day "Static" or "Storm" (can't remember) came on random and i loved it. it can be difficult, but it's definitely worth it. you have to hear each song in its entirety or you'll miss the point.

GY!BE are alright, but they sure ain't the best. You want to hit up Explosions in the Sky, 65daysofstatic or Mogwai for the post-rock lovin'.

65daysofstatic are post-rock now? They must have changed a lot, I saw them a few months back and they were just pretty average indie. Nice to know they've changed direction, I'll give them another shot now.
