The 'Must Have' List
Skibas_clavicle:
--- Quote from: Korlin ---Not entirely indie, but I have to heartily recommend:
Four Tet - Rounds
and
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
--- End quote ---
I HIGHLY agree. Rounds is sucha wicked album, so random and trippy. And Saturnine, your lists kicked an incredible amount of booty, too. Good job.
Merkava:
I think just to make sure...
Fugazi - 13 Songs
Bear Vs. Shark - Terrorhawk
Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On
Cursive - The Ugly Organ
and whatever else is on that big list. XP

Another cool band is Morphine. It's got no guitar, but it's got that slide bass and saxaphone stuff. I like "Good" the best, but everyone else says "cure for pain". Whatever. They both rule.
a pack of wolves:
--- Quote from: Merkava ---Fugazi - 13 Songs
--- End quote ---
Much as I love that record, I personally reckon Repeater was them basically going over the same ground but with much greater success. There's something just a little too loose about 13 Songs.

my list:
lift yr skinny fists like antennas to heaven - godspeed you! black emperor (best post rock album of all time.)
belle and sebastian - boy with the arab strap/dear catastrophe waitress (delightful brit-pop)
olivia tremor control - dusk at the cubist castle (like beatles if they wore vintage t-shirts and had synthesizers.)
pavement - slanted and enchanted (my favorite pavement album. should be yours too.)
the silver jews - american water (great album, was so good it broke up pavement. silly stephen malkmus)
the moutain goats - all hail west texas/tallahasee (great great great albums. lofi-indie-folk for the soul.)
mirah - c'mon miracle (you will get a crush on her, despite her being "mostly gay")
mogwai - come on die young (also amazing post rock.)
xiu xiu - fabulous muscles (music to creep out your roommate to.)
sufjan stevens - illinois (if only for john wayne gacy. so creepy!)
sebadoh - harmacy (good times.)
ryan adams - heartbreaker ("he's got a mouf full o' cookies." it will make you feel better about the debacle that is rock n roll)
neutral milk hotel - in an aeroplane over the sea (musical sex. hands down best nmh album)
i could go on and on, but i shan't. i left out lots of contemporary things, just because you can go on pitchfork and read up. although tinymixtapes is far superior!
