Personally, I love VIII, and I've never really known why. For close seconds, I chose VII and III. 3 would easily be the best Final Fantasy in ever if it had the graphics going for it.

FF7 made me the rpg'er i am today. Damn i love that game. They'd better not remake it though. The graphics may not be much, but i think you need to play it like that. DON'T TAMPER WITH A CLASSIC!

FF IX totally kicked ass. Except for the end, that made no sense at all, and came out of no where.

A lot of people hate on FF X.  I thought it was an excellent addition to the series and, while not necessarily as groundbreaking as FF VII (or as I like to call it, "The game that made the Playstation a necessity") It definitely had a lot going for it.  Frankly, I don't always want a non-linear quest, and I like the idea of encountering more than enough monsters to level up on the way to your next challenge.  I don't minde RPG's always but sometimes I just want exposition and not 5 hours in a field fighting behemoths because the next boss has 60,000 HP and you can't beat him unless you get the best sword technique.

YOU WIN AT LIFE! Yeah, seeing as those are the only two I've ever played all the way through (actually, 8 i played only about a 4th of but I've seen the whole game played and participated in parts.) Some day I'll beat 'em all. All things considered, none that I've seen the end of have great endings except VII and III. VIII has a terrible ending, but I still think it has the strongest story and best world.

I have not played a one; damn Square and their abandonment of Nintendo as soon my 64 was purchased. I finally picked up a PS1 and FF7 a few months back, but I've lost the AV cable. All is woe.

I agree with the other guy, Final fantasy X was a seriously under-rated game.  It was a departure in some ways from the previous games, but in a good way. The battle system was also a great tactical way of playing the game, and I loved it. Now, Final Fantasy IX, there's a game that never quite hit the spot.

Heh, I remember MQ, that was...well. It was pretty fun actually, because I was young at the time. And those are the FF's I've beaten as well. Dunno why I never completed II.

I didn't read the poll right the first time, so I was wondering where half the damn games where. I liked X as well,  it worked for me and I enjoyed the game play...apart from some of those fucking mini games..

VI is my favorite followed by IV, then V, then probably VII.  I don't like the rest very much.

Edit:  Well I just noticed there is no option to vote for VI so I guess I won't vote (assuming I, II, and III up there are the REAL ones and not the mislabeled American versions)

6 is 3 in america. or 3 is 6 in america. One of those things, it always confused me.

I'd have to say 8 is my favorite. That whole romance theme plucked on my preteen heart strings the first time I played through. Now I like it because the world seems like it exists perfectly between fantasy and what could be reality. Plus that was the best soundtrack ever.

Kefka was the man, but Sabin beefed him solid. Sabin was the pimp of pimps. And Shadow. And Gau too.

My favorites are a tie between IX and VI, of course it's possible that XII will give them a run for their money.

Steve, you say you have completed them all? That means the original, II only released in America on FF Origins for PSX and Dawn of Souls for GBA, III which is as of yet never released in the US but available as a fan-traslated pirate rom but will eventually see an official US release in altered form on the Nintendo DS, IV(EZ) released in the US as II and the original released in FF Chronicles, V which saw it's US realease on FF Anthologies, VI released originally as III then again on Anthologies, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XI through all of the missions for every nation.

Have you also played all of the non-core games: FF Mystc Quest, FF Tactics, FF Tactics Advance, and FF Crystal Chronicles?

If so, that is quite a feat and I must congratulate you.

Also, nobody bring up FF Legends I-III or FF Adventure on GB because they are not actual Final Fantasy titles. The Legends are actually part of the Romancing Saga series and Adventure is Sword of Mana.

Ok, just to clarify cuz i got carried away in my fanboydom:

I'm in england, not us and i won all ff's from 1 to x-2. I even have multiple copies of some. I have completed them ALL.
I do not have a gba or a cube, but i have friends that do. They are good friends and therefore will lend me said equipment. I have completed chronicles, tactics, advanced. Not yet found mystic quest. Will now be searching.

I have never played XI. Not really my thing. Also banned from playing all mmorpg's, as i am viscious at rpg's and can get carried away with my bastardness.

Hope that clears everything up.

8 was the first one I ever played, and the story line was awesome.  Probably why I don't like the plot in most games now, they just seem to lack something.  And as far as bad asses in the villian realm, sephiroth always takes the cake for me, no bigger, badder villian in all of video gamedom.  So cool...

It's all just between American releases, it says at the top. I didn't realize until I went and looked back at the poll.

Kefka rips Sephiroth and a few thousand new ones.

Sephiroth was a just a whiny little boy looking for his mommy compared to the awesome might of Kefka.

i was so pissed off at the way they handled magic and finding materials to build up the weapons in 8 that i threw the game away in dusgust, even though the story had a great deal of potential.  I have to say that 9 is my favorite because it's the only one i'v found that actually has a happy ending.

Kefka beats Seph becasue the game tried to justify Seph being nasty.

Kefka was just a mindlessly psychotic son of a bitch. Heh, that laugh rules.

Echoed, although two comes in directly under eight by an infinitesimal margin, since I totally was not a fan of the draw/junction system, even if the best parts of that game weren't in the technical aspects.

Playthrough one: Aw what is this shit?
Playthrough two: I AM UNSTOPPABLE.

But honestly, three just takes it hands down. It didn't exactly push the graphics in the way that maybe Chrono Trigger did, but the enemies all had really cool portraits and there was no other flaw in the entire game, pretty much. It's tough to find fault when they managed that kind of music on a SNES.
