I bought Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever today, and it's a fantastic album. I envy those who have seen their live shows, though I do not envy their ears. Is their 2003 album (can't remember title) different, and as good?

"The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place", I belive is the work to which you are refering. Yeah, it's kickass. However, their best album is "How strange, innocence". I fucking love that album, and I promise I'm not just being indier-than-thou first album is best. Whatever, The Earth... is damn good as well, so don't sweat it.

Is that their limited-edition CD-R release or whatever? Allmusic just lists Those Who Tell The Truth... as their first album.

Damn indie bands and their limited-edition releases!

I've only heard "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place" but I've gotta say, it was pretty amazing.

They're [insert some crazy superlative here]. Yup, that good. I love all the stuff I've heard, but it's a fight between "Those..." and "The Earth..."  How Strange, Innocence is awesome too. Argh, can't decide.

(Czech Soulseek for all your piracy needs. Buy the CDs too :))

I dunno, I always thought they were kind of boring.  I just never really got into it =P.

BLASPHEMY Yeah, fair enough; I spent a minute wondering when the album was going to start only to discover it had started 55 seconds ago.

I too have found myself wondering about whether or not anything was playing.  When the sound finally does start though, it's sweet.  It's always been the kind of thing where I can close my eyes and feel alright.  Pretty close to my heart I guess.

I've never really gotten into that kind of post-rock guitar porridge. It's like soggy, formless prog-rock. It can be cool for a while, but in the end I'm not left with any particular impression. I can understand why an extremely patient person might be more into it, though...

I think a band like Trail of Dead hit on the right idea, using it as one ingredient within a more grounded post-punk setting. But then, I think King Crimson gave pretty much the final word on post-rock 30 years ago.

You sir, are missing out.
But let's not let this devolve into a post-rock flame war.
Back to EITS. Yes, 'How strange, innocence' is limited edition CD-R crap, I'd forgotten about that. Just get The Earth... and revel in its wicked cool.

Well, I'm not the flame-warring type, don't worry. I do like good post-rock, I just tend to wish it were, you know...better.

How Strange, Innocence was the first EITS album I heard, and it's always been my favorite. I wasn't aware of the limited release/CDR stuff because...well...I got it from a friend.

If you'd like to get it from a friend (and you should), let me know.

Probably my favorite band. I can't wait for their new EP and album. They are incredible live. When they tour for their new album; do not miss them.

Oh, and by the way,

The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is consistently sublime. The energy in all the songs on all their albums is buzzing. As well as the POWAH, there exists a flowing melody throughout. Tracks like Your Hand in Mine  and Yasmin the Light have some the most beautiful melodies in guitar rock. Live they are fucking fab. My ears did ring.

An opinion, necessarily, can't be incorrect.

I think The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place... is pretty sweet. Hopeful and serene without being really boring. Good background music.
