The color and shape all the way for Foo albums, buy it first, and enjoy it.

I rate The Colour and the Shape in the top five to ten rock records released in the 1990s. I suppose I should defend that by saying that I could restrict that to major labels since I didn't listen to much indie when I was 5-15. But there you have it.

I didn't realise there was such an anti-Tool/NIN sentiment around because I love them too. I also listen to a variety of industrial, ebm, black/death/doom and power metal bands who probably wouldn't be very highly regarded on here. But then I don't really consider myself "indie" any more than I consider myself affiliated to any other genre.

I don't think there's that much of a dislike of tool or nin going around.
Most metalheads hate tool because people call it metal when it's actually art/alt-rock.
Most metalheads, goths, and even early industrial fans hate nin cause they're called industrial metal and aren't really any of those except on a few selected tracks.
and people don't like tool because they don't understand the lyrics, and people don't like nin because trent reznor sings about himself. woopdedoo.
BMF:
The color and shape rocks my fragile little world. As well as Ignition
by the offspring, but I don't know if they count as shitty. Do they?

Ah, fair enough :) I pretty much call them both rock and just enjoy the music. I wouldn't call Tool a metal band by any stretch of the imagination.
