What did you think about it?

The man is my fucking hero and all, but meh.
I'm seeing him on the 12th here in Los Angeles. Has anyone here been to the live shows?

the man is my fucking hero, too, but i agree with the "meh" sentiment.

i definitely don't appreciate the change in his songwriting. he explains that his new style is more honest and direct, and i appreciate the sentiment, but it doesn't translate to interesting lyrical content. what we get is worse than teenage poetry (excuse the TBS reference)...it's bland and cliche and far too generalized. i loved the Pumpkins because Billy always wrote lyrics with stunningly imaginative imagery, and told narrative like "stumbeline" that were intimate and detailed. everything on the new album is boring, really. it's like Adore with all the emotion ripped from it. it's a decent album, but it's by no means anything to be compared to the Pumpkins...hell, even Zwan. i loved Zwan. i still do.

at least it's better than the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. heard that stinkbomb yet? do yourself a favor.... don't.

Hm, I thought the album sounded a lot more like MACHINA for some reason, like a bunch of really bad early MACHINA b-sides.
I don't really pay attention to lyrics until after a while. I still don't really know most of the album's lyrics except for some lines here and there. The songwriting itself is just not interesting. And yes, it's like it has no emotion whatsoever. It's very bland and overall uninteresting.

I liked Zwan too. Feel so thankful that I got to see them at least once before they left.

I heard a clip from Jimmy's album. I don't plan on hearing anything else.

PS. What do you think of the whole Billy trying to get the Pumpkins back together? Jimmy just said he's in, but he was a given. Here's to wishing James and D'arcy are up for it as well.

I was interning at CRC (studio where the record was made) at the time they were making it.  I really really wanted to just yell "Fuck this synth shit, you need to rock!!!" really really loud at the producer, but I also really really didn't want to get fired.

I miss the Pumpkins. :(

BRAG:  I also got to meet Corgan.  He likes the Cubs.

The new album is okay, but doesn't live up to the Pumpkins.
I saw his show in TO over the weekend. The venue was incredible (The Carlu) but the show was so-so. It was great to see Corgan and he's a fantastic guitarist but they used those stupid digital drums live and they sound like ass. He also only plays songs from the new album with one little Today tease during one of the solos. The new songs were hit and miss live... Not the best show I've been to recently...

I don't think the Pumpkins should get back together. As much as it pains me to say that (and believe me: it does), we all know that a reunion now would not be the same Smashing Pumpkins we love. Especially with Billy's new "honest and straightforward" style of songwriting. I don't think I could see my favorite band come back only to fail miserably like they would be bound to do.

Granted, seeing them live would be completely worth it, but I imagine any new studio album could only be unfullfilling.

I, personally, adore the new album. There's just something about it to me.
As for the Pumpkins reuniting... well, it'd be just about the best thing ever. But on a sidenote, what has D'Arcy been doing lately, if anything? She was in Hole for a bit... but then disappeared.

In the most recent Illinois Entertainment mag, they have an interview with Billy, who basically says that she's in Hollywood somewhere shooting up smack.
