Buddy Holly glasses.

I find it interesting that EMO kids call those thick rimmed glasses "Buddy Holly" glasses.  I know Buddy Holly made the look famous in the 1950's, but, in the Army those glasses were issued to people who needed vision correction and we called them "Birth Control Glasses" because they looked so dorky you weren't going to get laid.  BC sounds like a more apt discription then Buddy Hollies.

I've heard both "Buddy Holly" and "birth control" used to describe them.  I prefer "birth control" myself, but I have 20/20 vision.  I think at this point it's safe to say that calling them "emo glasses" will work.

I've actually heard that they were called RPGs (Rape Prevention Goggles).  Same idea, somewhat ruder (for bonus points!)

EMO glasses sound like the best name yet.  I have 20/20 as well so this is an academic exercise.

I've actually been thinking about getting some "emo glasses." I 've liked the look fo ra logn time, before they were a huge hipster trend, but now they seem to be getting a little less popular. I'd prefer some that are a little more rectangluar, but a friend of mine has a spare pair of army issue square ones. I just need to see if they are comfortable, and if I like the look enough to buy lenses for them. My eyesight is fucking horrible.

incidnetally, a good pair of emo glasses is pretty expensive. You can get cheaper ones, but they won't fit right.

That's because designer frame-makers have cornered the market. I prefer nice thin-framed metal glasses with eye-shaped lenses. I've shyed away from anything without corners since getting called 'Harry Potter' for nigh-on a year.

Yeah. My glasses are nice, metal, Rectangular, but they're curved reather than sharp corners. Because I said so. Nyeh.

Also, my brother has a pair of those sort of glasses. I'm going to have to start calling them Rape Protection Goggles, because that is the best name ever.

Mine have round corners too.

High probability we have ultra-similiar glasses.

I always hear the term "chunky glasses".

Mine are nice, and i've bought them twice (lost the first pair less than a month after buying them).  Thin wire frame, rectangular with more squared than rounded corners and a nice green color. :)

I go back and forth between them and contacts.  It just depends on how lazy I am that day.  I have a friend that wears the RPG glasses with normal plastic lenses for the trend as he has 20/20 vision.  I think thats just poser-ish.

I've heard em called Elvis Costello glasses too. I'm about to replace my glasses they're wire framed ones but they've been annoying me as they get bent out of shape so easily. Not sure what I intend to get though. I do like the ones were there's no frame around the bottom part of the lense but apparently it won't work with my prescription as the vision correction is only for one of my eyes.

Why the fuck is this in the music forum?

I don't wear glasses, so maybe there's some crazy cult I'm not knowing about where people with bad vision get better hearing and they can listen to their glasses or something but that sounds like acid so no.

I had emo glasses a couple years ago, until they broke, and i was advised by my mother that " a nice sensible pair will look much better than those horrible black things". I took her advice and 2 years of "what happened to your cool glasses?"

Now i've gone and ordered some Cillian Murphy Batman glasses. Sure to be the next big thing.

What I am wearing in the pictures are the "real" BCGs... They are military issue. Frames might be different, but it's all the same concept.

No, I don't wear them all the time.. Only that one time. I didn't wear glasses in basic because they were freaking heavy and hurt.

I went to look for new glasses yesterday, and decided to try on a few buddy holly glasses for shits and giggles, decided that I looked absolutely terrible in them, and went back to my traditional wireframes.  Thus ended my short interest in the buddy holly glasses look.

Once upon a time, a man went to work.  Then the bomb fell on Hiroshima and everyone died.  The end.

But seriously, I feel sad that I can't say "ooh, I wear those glasses here's a picture woot!" and I feel left out.  Mainly because I wish I COULD look good in those, but I just don't.

I just got my first pair of glasses. If being black and rectangular constitutes 'emo'/b.c/.B.H then whatever.

best thing is, the insides are leopard print. Safe as.

My ex-girlfriend had such bad eye sight she couldn't read the clock when she got up in the morning until she put her glasses on.  I used to tease her about that but the truth is I have no idea why I don't have to wear glasses since my father & both grandfathers had to wear glasses plus my mother had to wear reading glasses.  Yet for some reason I have 20/20... Genetics are weird sometimes.

You probably can't get the pair i've bought in america, since they're made by FCUK.

On comparison, they're not actually that close a match on their own, but wearing them it's quite apparent.

Ahhh, yes.  The inserts.  The one thing which looked even worse then the birth control glasses and as a consequence the one thing which resulted in more eye injuries since people would try to avoid wearing those inserts and instead would try to wear contacts in the gas chamber.  This despite the fact that they were told ahead of time of the negative effects CX gas has upon contacts.

I wear emo glasses so they don't get broken. I got hit in the face with a volleyball (going at high velocity, mind you) and all that broke was my old glasses. Now I have emo glasses...which makes making fun of them even easier. Plus now I can be doubly ironic with a "Cheer up, emo kid!" sweatshirt. Go me!

I have this crazy-ass crackpot theory...wearing emo glasses slowly but surely turns you emo! Because since I got my glasses some emo music has started to sound good...
