I'm not a music snob. Anyone who took a look at any of the playlists I have would see this. And yet I still get flak for my music choices.

So... is it really THAT BAD to have Hanson, The Distillers, Lifehouse, Heather Alexander, Leslie Fish, Bush, and Beyonce all in the same playlist?

( And when I say Hanson, for I realize I may be beaten to death for saying I even like them, I mean new Hanson, and only two specific songs. And not liking them in the sense of actually like Hanson themselves as a band and being all screamy-fangirly-like, but just liking the songs. I really try to ignore the fact that the songs are by Hanson. It makes my head want to bleed.)

hey, listen to whatever you like.  it's when people start saying things like "oh wow, Linkin Park's lyrics are so deep" or "i think that Creed is the best band ever" that i'm going to disagree vehemently.

hahah yeah my music collection is pretty eclectic.  my friend teases me that he's going to have to rescue me from jail due to my downloading habits.  *shifty eyes*

i agree with est.  listen to whatever the hell you like.  while i'm not a fan of hanson's stuff at all, i can understand why some people would like some of their songs and whatnot.

to each his/her own.

My favorite is " I really identify with Britney Spears. She's just so pretty, she really must have gone through all the stuff she sings about."

Don't be afraid of it :)
I mean why should anyone care what music some stranger listens to?
Just as long as you aren't my neighbour and you aren't playing it at 3am... We're cool :)

Yeah, we have those neighbors. I want to shoot them. Both sets of them.

But that's illegal, and even little ol' me would get life.

The day I bought my first Frank Sinatra record in the full knowledge that some people would ridicule me for it was a day of great personal liberation.  I say we need MORE people with eclectic taste!

When the neighbours children get too noisy I normally put on Aborym's 'Chernobyl Generation'. At full volume by 5.1 turns the bass of that track into a force controlled under the geneva convention. And the bass speaker happens to be against the connecting wall.

Hee.

My neighbors have screaming children too. Only they scream in Russian. And shoot my squirrels out of the trees in my yard. So I play angry screechy rocker girl music and they HATE it.

Once I played Tatu and they threatened to take pot shots at my window...

At my stepmom's old house, the neighbors used to come out and yell at my stepbrother for playing his drums too loudly at 3:00 in the afternoon. In our basement.

If you want that, google for Melt Banana. There are lots of legal MP3s out there, and it doesn't get any screechier.
Your neighbours will hate you so much they'll buy a catapult.

My cat meows along with me when I play the piano...
and then when I stop playing to giv her whatever it is she wants, she doesn't seem to want anything, and when I resume playing, she resumes her meowing...maybe my piano's out of tune.

I live in a pretty cool building. All Artists, and Gov't workers.

I'll be listening to Q And Not U at like 3 in the morn, quietly. Next morning, Neal (the downstairs neighbor), comes up and asks me to burn a CD for him.

While I will jokingly make fun of Coldplay and Linkin Park, I really love all music that has good intentions and never try to make people feel bad for liking something. The only time I put people down is when people become elitist about the music they like, especially when they become elitist about something mainstream or elitist metalheads. Fucking hate elitist metalheads.

As soon as they become popular everyone realized that their music is really boring. The more popular they became the more boring their music sounded.

Coldplay have always sucked. Since before they were popular even. And Morrisey blows. Literally. But yeah, why should you care what anyone says about what band you listen to? I shit on bands all the time, and I doubt it makes anyone question their tastes.

I think what it is though, is that why should we shit on bands at all?
It's not exactly a great comparison but that's similar to me shitting on people of a different nationality.  Just because I am not of the same, doesn't mean that I have the right to shit all over it.

But let me tell you.  Criticizing someone's history/culture is going to make them sure feel like crap.
So why would criticizing their music not be similar?

There's a difference between stating reasons why a band sucks and being an asshole about it. Personally I didn't like American Idiot, personally I think people who dressed up in American Idiot t-shirts are probably missing out on bands far more interesting and good than Green Day, and I have no problem making fun of "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" for being a lame song. It's making Green Day fans feel like shit or bashing the band like they were personally trying to hurt me by making their alum, it's that unnesessary jackassery that needs to stop (Not really on this forum but amongst music fans in general).

At the end of the day getting mad that a thirteen year old girl is wearing a Green Day shirt but has never heard Dookie (An album that came out when she was 2) is fucking stupid. It's okay to not like things, but it's not okay to be mean, spiteful, or arrogant because of it.

I can't tell if you intended that to be funny or not, but I'm laughing my ass off!

I have a five-year-old cousin, and to start off, I hate children.

...

Seriously, I can't stand them. I once tried to create an underground revolution to lock 4/5s of them in Attica. But then I got lazy and got trashed on Listerine.

....Really. Anyways. He's a little pussy, in lamens terms, so whenever I want him out I just turn up NOFX or The Who (culture shock anyone?) and he runs out screaming like a sissy.

I told you I was an asshole. :D

I would liketo motion that your stereotype is incorrect. The problem is not that most metalheads are elitists, it is that most metalheads are 15 years old and think it would be cool if they were elitists.

When we get older we can totally get over the knowledge that we listen to better music than anyone else*.

I thought they just said that they suck at rocking out. I remember them on VH1 saying they just don't have enough hair, so they make nice, sissy rock. That's one of the reasons why I love them.

His overwhelming hatred for coldplay matches my overwhelming hatred for outkast.  Yet, I don't think I would ever get into an argument about whether they are good or not and try to convince people who like that... crap... otherwise.  Damn, it really is like arguing with a wall.  Maybe I'm just non-confrontational, but last time I checked people who enjoy a certain band probably won't stop enjoying them just because someone else thinks that band is shit.  I'm pretty sure you can't change the way someone hears music.  That's the beauty of having a mind of your own.
