I am to requesting The Residents, Praxis,
Finally! After SIX PAGES, My dream is requested.
Band Name: The Residents
Genre: Avant Garde
Your Rating of them: 10
Best Album: Such a fucking hard question; with a good heaping pile of albums over 30 years, there's alot of good (and some bad). That and it's hard to get albums by them unless you're buying online, and even then it's a tad hard. Look out for Meet The Residents, Eskimo, The Commercial Album, Not Available, The Third Reich N' Roll (Which has just been rereleased with an awesome book/cd cover thing. It's badass. You can get it at
www.ralphamerica.com), Duck Stab/Buster and Glen, Fingerprince, Mark of the Mole, The Tunes of Two Cities, Intermission, The Big Bubble, God In Three Persons, The Mole Show: Live in Holland, The King and Eye, Cube-E: Live in Holland, Freak Show, Life at the Fillmore, Wormwood, and their latest one, Animal Lover.
Songs:
-Best All Around: I'm just going to go with "Olive and Gray".
-Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': Some of their really early live things (The Latter half of Baby Sex, for example) are really bitchin, but that's because they hijacked stages and had people listen to them.
-Most Relaxing: Probably either the Hunters soundtrack (it's all one track) or some of their more ambient works, although some of those are slightly creepy.
-Most Played/A Song by them you may have heard: Either their cover of Hank Williams "Kaw Liga" or The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction. And, if you happened to have been in LA in the 1980s, they bought out 40 one minute slots on the radios and played their songs all at once. (This was off the Commercial Album, where every song was under a minute; the time of a commercial).
-Song that Best Represents the band: I'm going to go with Imaginary Jack (It's the second disk of Animal Lover; basically, it's also, once again all one song).
Bands Like This Band: Renaldo and the Loaf, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Primus, Praxis, Mr. Bungle, Nash the Slash, Zappa/The Mothers, C2B3, Chicks on Speed, Captain Beefheart, Buckethead.
Coolest Thing About This Band: My God. They have complete anoniminity (They feel that the focus should be more on their actual music and not their personal lives or politics) and The Theory of Obscurity, and created some of the most original music over thirty years. Also, their ambient works are great for creeping out that "friend" of yours who hates the shit out of them because they actuall try and do things artistically compared to his beloved Crossfade, who are the most boring, bland, worthless piece of shit of music ever.
And I'll do Praxis later; I'm lazy.
